As with all of Cowhorn's wines the 2011 Applegate Oregon Syrah 42 is a lovely thing to behold, and made lovelier still by the fact that 2011 was a difficult growing season in Oregon. What this wine conveys is terrific purity, high-toned black fruit, cinnamon bark and violets with just a touch of earthy savoriness. It's medium-bodied, and fine-boned for a Syrah. Is this to do with a cooler growing season, or is it biodynamic farming combined with the winemaker's deft hand? Probably. 13.1% ABV | Sample

On the lighter side for a Syrah, which is great when you want those red wine flavors in the summer. Ligonberry, boysenberry, blackberry, violets, smoke, and touch of earthiness. Lots of sediment.

Biodynamic Syrah from Oregon. Black fruit jam but not too jammy, smoked meats, baking spices. Nice.

Big and full-bodied, uniquely Oregon Syrah. Unfiltered so be careful with lots of sediment.

At first I thought that the previous vintage was much better.. This has way more upfront fruit and less of a finish. This wine is tasting way better on the second day. Matches well with butter beans, sweet potato and queso fresco
