Decanted and enjoyed over three hours or so. Aromas of ripe red and black cherries, smoke, and meat off the bat. Towards the end of the bottle, some really enjoyable cola and black licorice aromas come to the foreground. Flavors of bright tart fruit- sour cherries and raspberries, earthy minerality. Strong acidity (or is it just tartness?) and medium tannins compliment a long finish. This wine was really nice but a bit underwhelming compared to Clos Saron's other offerings. The 09 Home Ranch Pinot was much more complex and savory, and had a higher degree of funk and secondary/tertiary flavors. I look forward to trying this one again in a couple years to see if the tart fruit and acidity moves back to reveal some more depth.

Intense earthy aromas . Flavors ran the gamut from cherry to plum and all of it sheathed in a blanket of minerals.

Very good, but enjoyed the Lower Block bottle more. One of best I've had this year.

Really earthy and mineral driven. A cult classic (pun intended).
