I was mentally prepared for a wine that had begun its slow descent. Instead, like a United security officer, it immediately punched me in the face, but in a sort of stately, gentlemanly sort of way. The broad-shouldered structure still manages to contain the pungent damp clay, fresh cherry, tea leaf, underbrush, tobacco, cedar, and worcestershire. For a second wine from a fifth growth, this seems to defy its age. Superb.
