Out of magnum. Medium gold and notably darker than the 96 Raveneau I had the previous night. Earthy sweet nose. Notes of apricot, tan spice, a little ginger. Rich in the mouth. Sneaky acidity. Gave it lots of air. This was a tad bit off in terms of its presence and performance, but I wouldn’t call it premox given its 24 year old age.

Lovely rich farmhouse butter and honeydew melon. The latter was very pronounced indeed and dominated the nose for a long time, before the underlying fragrances of cox apples and Scottish mountain heather (from the oak?) poked their heads through. This seems to be a muh debated vintage for premox but I saw no signs of it here, only the faint hint of oxidation desirable in a 20 year old Burgundy.

"The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated." Perhaps not, but this was a correct bottle. Lovely when it's on.

fortunately not oxidized, it was excellent and what it should be. Too bad it's so often a crapshoot with this producer--ending in crap. Used to be my go to value grand cru but with price tripled and half premoxed, no longer.
