Fantastic birthday wine, Huggo's patio.
Dark crimson red, opaque. Moderate, somewhat young, earthy aromas of venison, balsamic vinegar reduction and prunes. Ever so slightly off-dry, powerful entrance, medium to full body, medium soft tannins, quite elegant, but disrupted by a slight alcohol defect that comes up on the third quarter, along with a tart, mouth-watering acidity. Obvious blackberry jam, black currant, and some anise and black licorice, with subtle black pepper on the long (6 seconds) finish. The obvious pairing for this wine would be mushroom risotto, paella, or duck magret. Solid 85 pt. wine.
