Bellwether
Riverland Bianco d'Alessano

The origins of this white grape are from Puglia. Having visited the heel of Italy a few years ago and experienced the heat you can only grow grapes which are heat tolerant like Negromaro and Primitivo (Zinfandel). I notice that Sue Bell sourced these grapes from a grower in the Riverland which is always warm and would suit Bianco d’Alessano. This wine is musky and herbaceous with ripe Tangerine/Mandarin flavours with low acid. Refreshing and different. See previous note from March 2021. Had another bottle 158 weeks later on 18/7/25. A good winter white but also with a saline note to the palate. An adventurous choice by Sue Bell to use this little know Italian varietal from grapes grown in the Riverland.

A rare and unusual grape variety native to Puglia in the heel of Italy. This is fermented on skins. Very textural with a great mouth feel. Ideal for warm climates - this is from the Riverland. Drought tolerant with thick skins.
