(Blend of 80-85% Nebbiolo, Barbera and a little Cabernet sauvignon)
The rather dark color clearly sais it's no Nebbiolo, but a Barbera. However, the nose reminds me again of aged Nebbiolo, but also of gracefully aged Barbera, that gets in the direction of old Nebbiolo with age, in my perception. I let it "breathe" in a large glass for like 1-1.5 hours (Coravin & pour).
This 1998 has a still a lovely freshness and a soft tannic spine. I feel stewed mountain berries (frutti di bosco), ripe plums, a scent of cigar box, cranberries. The acidity is healthy with orange zests. The next glass will definitely get more air, as I feel that it will open up even more.
