It’s another Shay Day at the Rivard household!!!
We opened this one yesterday and I neglected to post it. Thank you so much to my buddy Shay for sharing this beauty with us. Big bold and gorgeous, everything that I love from a napa cab.

From the Tench Vineyard. On the nose, ripe floral fruits of; black raspberries, blackberries & black plum. Tarry notes, anise, loads of vanilla, lavender, lilacs and violets. The body and tannins are M+. Huge heated spices takeover the palate. Followed by ripe & slightly candied fruits of; blackberries, black plum, black raspberries, plum, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, overpowered use of oak, dry crushed rocks, chewy leather, herbs, underbrush with good acidity and ripe fruit, hot alcohol finish. This wine will tame in time but didn't appreciate the sweetness and the alcohol burn in the back of my throat. I just don't get it. Score fairly reflects the craft but not my preference.

We finished off our first night in Napa with a tasting with a favorite of ours, Addax. Personally, I think they have the best Pinot noir I've ever tasted, and their Sauv Blanc may be the best as well. Let's not forget their cab either. All of these wines are made by Russell Bevan and they feel identical to his Bevan Cellars brand. This '14 cab is so freaking juicy right now...super approachable. Blackberries, toasted oak, sweet tobacco on the palate. Tannins are so well integrated already. Full throttle. Well done Russell Bevan!

Not to be out done by the Pinot, this Napa cab is already money. This is typical Bevan & Peeples style wine (Chateau Boswell, hint of Bevan Cellars). Sourced from Tench & Sugarloaf...jackpot. Vanilla, cigar smoke, cassis on the nose, forever legs, and a great blend of truffle, coffee and jammy blackberries.

Dark purple color with great concentration of black and blue fruit. Grippy tannins that benefitted from a quick decant. A powerful yet accessible wine that brings the palate a ton of pleasure and focus.
