Glinting straw yellow and laden with aromatics of d'Anjou pear, lemon curd, petrichlor, lily of the valley, and a lilting top note of cinnamon stick. The 2015 Pike Road Pinot Gris is winsome and engaging with a light crisp palate that offers almost as much complexity as the nose. Honeydew melon emerge on the back palate, lightly tinged in minerality and spice. This is a really nice example of an Oregon Pinot Gris. 13.5% ABV | Sample — 9 years ago
Grown from their estate Winsome Vineyard in the Southern Valley, Huia crafts a beautiful Pinot Gris of texture. Resinous and waxen with the flavor of dried honeycomb but without the sweetness, it tastes of rosewater and white peaches. Another reminder to the majestic potential of aromatic whites in Marlborough. — 7 years ago
As pretty as Chambolle can be! Not winsome but beguiling. — 10 years ago
Had I tasted this blind, I would have mistaken it for a Loire rosé. Pale salmon in the glass, this winsome Oregon rosé from JK Carriere exudes notes of wet stone and underripe cantaloupe. On the palate, mineral-driven acidity with touches of lime zest and lemon thyme. An excellent summer food wine, and one of the best domestic rosés I've tasted from the 2013 vintage. The finish is lengthy and persistent. Buy this if you can find it. — 11 years ago
A winsome blend of Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris that sees 12 months aging sur lie the Francois Baur Crémant d'Alsace Brut Réserve is pale straw with aromas of baked apple and rustic peach pie, with a top note of dried mint. The attack boasts high acidity carving a wide swath through orchard fruit and lemon pith. There is a bit of yeast, nutmeg and baking spice on the back palate that gently ebbs to a mouthwatering finish. 12.0% ABV | Sample — 8 years ago
The perfect companion to a classic summer dish—Salade Niçoise. The
Terrebrune Bandol Rosé is one of the more winsome, elegant rosés I've tasted this year. Primarly composed of Mourvèdre grown in blue Trias limestone soils, it is the minerality that really shines, along with breezy notes of alpine strawberries, raspberries, white peach and Rainier cherries. It is drier and more refined on the palate than the nose belies, with freshness, energy and acidic verve all dancing 'round a pronounced vein of chalk. — 10 years ago
