Wines Of The San Juan

Bodegas Juan Gil

18 meses Jumilla Monastrell Blend 2012

A Monastrell from Jumilla which I always enjoy. 18 months in oak. Very hot and dry aromas in the nose, sour red fruits, Black Forest berries, handful of nuts, jam. Very nice acidity and tannins, could still wait couple of years and age beautifully — 8 years ago

Always one of my favorite CA Chardonnays. Layers upon layers of complexity and nuances. Superb balance and built to easily last another decade or more. — 9 years ago

Ridge Vineyards

Estate Monte Bello Vineyard Merlot 2014

M
9.1

Earthy mushroom and cherry-berry bouquet. Tasting: Mostly cherry--a splash of blackberry, black tea, with limestone and oak on the finish, the latter sweetened a bit by the fruit. Well balanced tannins. In general, I am not a fan of straight merlot--and this bottle has not changed my opinion, but Ridge knows how to make it elegant. — 8 years ago

Bodegas Juan Gil

Jumilla Monastrell 2012

Loads of red fruit--raspberry and cherry especially. Nice touch of oak giving it some nice vanilla and clove notes. Good body and medium finish. Kind of tobacco-like taste on the finish. — 10 years ago

Hirsch Vineyards

San Andreas Fault Pinot Noir

First night dark cherry and a bit too acidic. Second night balances out with layers of character... Spent more time smelling than sipping. So glad to get this piece of quintessential California in Hong Kong. 2012. — 10 years ago
