Welcome friends to Dr Todds wine bar. Today we are tasting Artemis by Stag's Leap Wine Cellars. This is the 2012 Cab. It is their cheapest cab and its still 45 dollars. Imagine that! My taste is too expensive for my wallet!
The cork has a perfect absorption line with a very very small rim in perfect lineage! no breaks . The color is opaque and dark purple / black just like I like it. The legs are long at 5 sec. The initial boquet is a bit disappointing. There is a hint of perfume. But if we let it breathe for 15 min, its gone. Then we have ripe plum. The initial palate is sour apple and sweet plum. Sweet and sour like youve never had! There is no spice. The finish is amazing. This is where it gets good! It is very dry but not to the point of not being able to move your mouth. The tongue has a dry grip on the lower half from the base to the tip. Then its gone!!!!! No aftertast at all. The one thing about this wine is it never lets you down! its always the same. Let's welcome the weekend with this wonderful Merlot.
Deep red in color with medium intensity and a pink/ red rim.
Fruity on the nose with blackberries, blueberries, plums, cherries, oak, vanilla, green pepper, licorice, black pepper, chocolates, light smoke and spices.
Full bodied, smooth and elegant, with great legs and medium acidity.
Fruity on the palate with blueberries, blackberries, plums, cherries, chocolates, tobacco, wood, vanilla, coffee, licorice, cloves, spices and peppercorn.
A very long finish, with cloves, firm tannins and black pepper.
This is a Great Merlot from Spring Mountain, Napa Valley. Had it blind, and I called a 2012 Napa Cabernet. I was off by varietal, but that is what one can expect from it, a Napa Cab.
Needs a couple of years to tone down on the green pepper, Otherwise, nicely balanced and enjoyable by itself or with a big piece of steak.

Welcome to Dr Todd's Wine Bar once again. Tonight we are tasting Elizabeth and Clarke Swanson's 2002 Alexis from Oakville Estates in Napa Valley. It is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Syrah. The cork has a 3mm ring that is well defined. The legs are 4 seconds. The boquet is that of ripe plums. the initial palate is blackberry currant. There is no tanic boquet or taste. The finish is minimally dry, spicy and tantelizing tonthe roof of the mouth. The middle edges of the toungue are tingling. This is very very very good wine!!! I will try and contact the wine makers and order a case of this beautiful wine! Welcome to Friday and it looks like a beautiful weekend. The wine today is the 2013 Ornellaia Bolgheri Superiore. I have been waiting a long time to try an Ornellaia it has lived up to my expectations. This wine is a blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot 10% Cabernet Franc and 7% Petit Verdot.
On the nose is dark fruit, black cherry, plum, blackberry, graphite, violets and spice.
On the palate is a fully integrated wine with black cherry, raspberry, cassis, cedar box, some tobacco, and spice.
There is medium + acidity, silky smooth full body mouth feel with firm intense tannins. The wine rounds out with a long beautiful finish.
I was definitely delighted and not disappointed with this wine.

Acidic and mouthwatering with fresh apple and lemony citrus, but still luxurious and slightly creamy as you expect. We were given this as a welcome home from our honeymoon and it made the bottle that much sweeter. — 9 years ago

Vying with the '05 Bollinger Grand Année for top spot amongst all the champagnes tasted last night (dozens of wines). The extra bottle age gives it a very round and polished character. The Grand Année had slightly more acidity (welcome), the Gosset was more powerful. Great brioche and lots of apply fruit. — 10 years ago
