Lemon citrus smell, nutty taste, creamy texture... yes and it is in Le Bernardin — 7 years ago
Stunningly complex and alive, this is what I was hoping to find when opening an older bottle of Smaragd Gruner Veltliner.
The color was medium gold, no hint at all of age here.
The nose however started to put us where we were thinking, but there was still some youth. A deep and penetrating nose of golden delicious apples, yellow plums, and quince paste. The nose was so deep I wanted to jump into the glass!
The palate was exceptional, perfectly balanced with excellent density, breadth and a crazy long finish of minerals, fine acidity and subtle, juicy golden fruits.
An epic wine for me and a new benchmark for Gruner for my palate.
To add to the magic I walked the vineyard earlier in the day. — 9 years ago
2011. It's Riesling. Don't let the slight RS fool you on the acid. — 10 years ago

“The best Gruner in the world”
Gruner is a crazy ass grape, and I drink the low cost liters like they’re water.
But when it’s done on a world class level it’s such an understatedly intense wine - WIDTH in your mouth, like taste it from every corner. A very different finish than you’d find in a French Chardonnay.
Cool to try. Appreciate the experience, and for $50 it’s rare to be able to taste one of the best around. — 5 years ago
Yellow apple, over ripe pear, white raisin, green plum. — 7 years ago
2009 Wow. My ideal Riesling — 9 years ago
Very complex, layers of sweet lime, apricot, some flowers and green apple. Delightful milky texture. — 10 years ago
A Gruner V with a little bit less acidity, less raciness than I'm used to, and very nice for a change — 10 years ago
Pure essence of GV. Fresh, intensive with floral and fruits aromas. A bit of minerality and papper. — 11 years ago
Exotic and sweet. Perfect with the sea bream at per se — 12 years ago
Can’t imagine paying $100+ for this, but it is a viscous, layered, tropical stunner. Pineapple and apricot spread to every corner of the palate with a long, luxurious finish. Teriyaki glazed pork? Soup dumplings? What to pair this with? Awesome wine with another fifteen years ahead of it. — 5 years ago
Delicious Grüner. — 6 years ago
One of the most profound & satisfying gruner’s I’ve had. Notes of white pear, daffodils, green peas, white pepper, with floral and almost marzipan qualities all come together harmoniously & dance on the tongue & drives home with an intense mineral backbone. Beautiful. — 6 years ago
Off vintage and still stunning — 7 years ago
Precise, mineral, legumes, spice, great citrus and stone fruit character. — 9 years ago
Beautiful deep aromas of beeswax with notes of ripe melon and candied ginger. Full, rich, creamy and slightly off-dry on the palate. Citrus and tropical fruit fill the mouth followed by deep, gripping minerality and a touch of spice. — 10 years ago
Rich, bright and delicious... Excellent Grüner — 10 years ago

Fresh and vibrant. That prickle of false effervescence. Stone fruit and melon rind with that unmistakable Gruner viscosity. White pepper. Snow peas. It’s good, but tough to justify above $30. — 5 years ago
