Hits you with citrus, orange, lemon, dry, very little pigment, yet complex. A great surprise!! — 5 years ago
Wie beim letzten Mal, ein klasse Weissburgunder — 5 years ago
Prima, aber im Vergleich zu Dollt oder Faubel oder Hexamer nicht ganz so rieslingtypisch, sondern eher rustikaler. — 6 years ago
Tasted at a private seminar in SF with importer Terry Theise and it is showing amazingly well. Yet another example of the power of Riesling. This nearly 14-year-old Spätlese is still a toddler, not even approaching a tertiary stage any time soon. Golden straw color with great clarity, green reflections. Massive nose of smoke, slate, passion fruit, apricot and melon all coated in honey. The aromatics attack your palate from 8 inches away. 100 g/l RS, but impeccably balanced. This is what I adore about the great sweet Rieslings- the inherent sweetness lends wonderful body and texture and carries all the intensity of the fruit all the way through the finish which I find to be amazingly persistent. Loving the spice character in the mid palate and the lovely floral quality up front. This is a masterful Riesling from a top Nahe producer, and Meddersheimer is arguably one the top vineyards in this subregion. The mosaic of soil types here lend the wines a great deal of nuance and complexity and all different ripeness levels, but this is my favorite Spätlese from the Nahe at the present moment due to its outward and flamboyant nature. Very versatile food wine with great individual character. — 6 years ago

The decision to hold this wine until ready made me think of a musician tuning a guitar. He’s turning the keys and plucking the top two strings until the A and the E are the same. And then he strums a heart melting deeply harmonic E chord.
I imagine this wine was tasted, tasted again, then when everything was in tune, magic happens and it’s time for sharing.
It’s glowing gold. Burnt popcorn kernels. Honey. The sweetest indulgent peach preserves. — 5 years ago
Guter Basis Weissburgunder, aber nicht ganz so ausdrucksvoll wie Hexamer. — 6 years ago

Smoky struck flint wreaths, white peach, fig and lime on the nose. The palate impression is glossy and lusciously-fruited, with a bittersweet, crunchy hint of cassis berries adding to its appeal. The residual sugar is supportive, yet not perceived as outright sweetness. Hints of smoke persist intriguingly in a lingering finish. This lovely example of “hidden sweetness” in Riesling – coincidentally harboring the same 17 grams of residual sugar as its vintage 2016 predecessor – weighs in at slightly higher alcohol (exactly 12%) but preserves a nice sense of lift to accompany its animating juiciness. The source this year is half from Hexamer’s Schlossböckelheimer In den Felsen and half from a nearly adjacent portion of Schlossböckelheimer Mühlberg owned by a semi-retired grower whom Hexamer says farms conscientiously and is proud of the grapes he sells. @Delectable Wine this is not a Spätlese. Nevertheless it is sehr gut! — 7 years ago
This wine is incorrectly listed here. The ** are essential components of this wine. The bottle was simply wonderful. — 8 years ago
Mineral, acid, phenolics & fruit. Yum — 9 years ago
Really nice and rounded with a bright acidity, fruit notes and flavors are more blended due to the age. Usually drink from the Mosel region but this is very good — 9 years ago
