As you would expect from Manfred. After a while you just run out of superlatives and just sit there with a Syrah stained smile on your face. Rich dark fruit with beef blood smell (that term doesn’t do justice to how interesting and delicious the combination really is). Tremendous finish, dark color to the edge. Just a great wine experience. My only bottle. I have no clue how long this wine could go before peaking. — 8 years ago
So my black face surprised David L tonight. Couldn't let him come to NY without pressing the flesh. Anyway, we took a picture with the Arietta owner Fritz Hatton. A brilliant evening (organized by Daniel Posner: Grapes) on many levels - At Restaurant North, NY. — 9 years ago

Delicious Zin, drinking well right now, but like most Rafanelli wines, can be cellared longer.
14.7% but not an in-your-face fruit bomb. Balanced wine, and perfect for an Italian dinner. — 10 years ago
Face shredding Champagne with cinnamon toast, and Pledge aromas. Towering structure. — 11 years ago
a light, delicious, medium bodied wine that doesn't need a food pairing. — 11 years ago

Love this Rostaing Syrah created from 12 or 13 different vineyards. The style encompasses everything thing I love about Northern Rhône. At $50-$55, their 2010 vintage of Ampodium pushes quality close to their much more expensive single vineyard bottling for a 1/3 of the price.
It’s round and elegant. Lightly roasted, creamy dark fruits, used expresso grounds, savory meats, just a touch of bacon fat, soft, understated minerals, dry top soil with dark withering & fresh dark florals. The round and beautiful. The finish glides over the palate with persistence and puts a smile on your face. It was a magnificat pair with my Short Ribs and Yukon Gold Horseradish Potato Purée.

Checking in on this one. Purchased a case for the restaurant 2 years ago and it wasn't ready. Now it's beautifully subtle, quiet and peaceful as the place it comes from. I want to sleep naked in a bed with sheets that have the same texture as this wine. — 9 years ago
Deliciously thick and sweet. Essence of apples. Lovely dessert "wine". — 10 years ago
I face friends that open this vintage regularly... It pairs with vanilla ice cream and yes sometimes simple is good enough. — 10 years ago
The 2012 is Zin-like! Fruit & spice and everything nice. Fruit up front, with a lingering peppery finish. This red blend remains a great daily driver. Be careful, the 14.5% will 'steal your face' if you don't check yourself! — 11 years ago
Bomb.com! I absolutely loved this wine & would definitely buy again. Super bold & in your face with a nice lingering smokiness. — 11 years ago
Nine because it makes me like this smiley face more than the eights medioaker smile but back to the chianti in the background to be back to 😄.7 bahahahaha ha — 11 years ago
Velvety, smooth. Complicated. Deep. Vanilla? Pepper? — 13 years ago
Smells like a Washington State cab. Fruity. Lots of tannins. Really good with chocolate. Full-bodied and in your face. — 7 years ago
2005.... has settled somewhat, fruit is now not as in your face, still needs time to integrate the massive oak here; however, overall this is a very good drinking experience — 8 years ago
One of my favorite entry level wines out there. Outstanding and in your face. Surprisingly open at the young age. Rush of all types of fruit. Sandalwood and bacon on the nose. Elegant on the palate actually... not as brash as previous vintages. Full bodied. Large and in charge with blueberry pie and fig. Bevan is in my top 3 of favorite winemakers. — 8 years ago
Very bold in your face fruitiness. Nearly a dessert wine. Good with cheese. Slight cola and tons of ripe fruit. Very soft tannins. — 10 years ago
If you have a strong dessert wine program, this should be in it. Late harvest apple cadre with resid so good and so fun. — 11 years ago
Really enjoyed this wine! I was expecting to get a tannin slap in the face, but this was surprisingly smooth and silky. Nice mix of berries, peppers and spice. I plan on buying more and cellar for a few years - I'm sure it'll be even better! — 11 years ago
Rounded, atypical Syrah...big but not in your face. — 11 years ago

Shay A

Wednesday Wine Committee hosted by Dan. 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds and 1 dessert wine. Tasted blind as usual.
Drinking wonderfully. Full fruit at this stage without it being in your face. Plum, blackberry, and currant. Soft and dense in the mid palate. Tart black cherry work herbal notes on the finish. Just beginning to channel secondary notes. I guessed right bank Bordeaux from early 2000s. — 7 years ago
