Great stuff. Mixes mineral pedigree of iron and blood with a lifted, red, fresh profile. Both contemplative and drinkable — 9 months ago

Roses de Jeanne La Bolorée Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne 2015

Cedric Bouchard makes some of the most singular, vinous and terroir expressive wines in Champagne which is even taken to the next level in his prized and ultra rare cuvée, La Bolorée. 2015 was a particularly great vintage for Bouchard and every cuvée I’ve tried has been fantastic. La Bolorée, 100% Pinot Blanc from 50+ year-old vines on limestone soils, is powerful, detailed and multidimensional showing layer upon layer of rich orchard fruit, white flowers and salty minerals. Just my 4th time having this bottling, but it is always a special drinking experience. We did not decant, but drank from Zalto Burgundy which somehow didn’t break on a boat 😅

Inflorescence Brut Blanc des Noirs Champagne Pinot Noir 2010

Mature
Small tight bubbles
Dusty yellow fruit with almonds and some hints of cellar age on the nose

The taste is light fruit flavors of bruised apple and pear, lemon cream, and brioche. Not clearly BdN as I didn’t pick up any red fruits

This comes in an elegant, soft package with a bit of creamy texture. Age has softened this. Some would love the elegance but others might find it past it’s prime. I preferred this with more intensity and focus but this is very pleasant to drink.
I found a couple of bottles hiding in my cellar. Ideally I would have checked in more frequently to follow it’s development. Many think grower champagnes are most odeal in the 3-8 year window of bottle age. When do you prefer them generally?

Nice. I’ve not tried his champagnes with significant age on them. Wish I could find his champagnes more often!

Cedric Bouchard’s wines have definitely become more difficult to find as more people have discovered them.
I have been purchasing since the 08 vintage. This was the bottle with the most age I have tried so far

La Geynale Cornas Syrah 2016

Beautiful wine. Feeling suspended in time. Lots of energy, deepness and Sicily complexity. The fruit is now overtaken by the spiciness so it may need more air or more time to evolve in bottle. Can still improve. — 6 months ago

Les Côtes Saint-Joseph Syrah 2022

Last bottle of a summer dinner- no decant. 2nd tasting of this vintage & much more expressive than the first. Throws Brett a decent amount & imagine some might prefer a substantial decant, though I like the funkiness. Fine toothed &a lovely grainy, slightly chewy texture & rather elegant; cassis, black currant, smoked beef jerky, & black cherry on palate & nose. Not complex at this stage but who needs it given the enjoyment factor. Post meal ( or probably blended into the end) of grilled BBQ chicken, French lentilsw labneh, & local tomato salad. There goes summer… — 9 months ago

Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Chardonnay 1996

#AgedWineTuesday

Dark golden in color with a brownish hue.

Light nose and very dry on the palate with nice complexity.

Showing lemons, apples, spices, light over ripen citrus fruits, earth, light wood, herbs, light vegetables and white pepper.

Short finish with limes and bitter herbs.

This 28 year old is a little past its prime, but still drinkable and interesting.

I had higher expectations, but at this age, it really depends on the individual bottle. That said, I still enjoyed it.

Needed 30 minutes to open up properly.

Good by itself as a sipping wine.

100% Chardonnay grapes were aged in French oak barrels for 12 months.

13.5% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

$250.

Roses de Jeanne Brut Blanc de Noirs

Third rating for this: started at 10 degrees , and warmed up to around 15-18 in a warm 29 degrees tropical Singapore. Was fresh, crisp, lemon-like at first, followed by zesty mandarin orange flavours that finally matured to mellow honey apricots. Best of all coloured like the upcoming Chinese New Year - perfect gold. — 4 years ago
