A model of finesse and understatement, the 2008 Barolo Le Vigne is every bit as thrilling as it has always been. At nearly 10 years of age, the 2008 is still bright, precise and very fresh. Sweet red cherry, rose petal and mint notes are beautifully sketched in a Barolo that is pure and total class. In 2008, vineyard sources are Vignane, Merli, Ceretta and Conterni. I've always liked Vietti's labels and the Barbera d'Asti Tre Vigne is a delightful departure from their usual illustrations from nature. Unlike the label art of a mask, and indeed of the mask from the El Gato Chimney painting behind, nothing is being hidden here. Overt and plummy and floral too, this 2010 reminds me why I love the vintage and how Barbera with a bit of age can be an utter delight. — 8 years ago
I still remember the very 1st Champagne visit I had 12yrs ago with Pierre, it's so great to come full circle. This is rich, but balanced, a great apple tarte tartin quality to it when opened, so showed development, but being VV it's understandable. After being open for an hour everything came alive, white florals, beautiful minerality. Outstanding wine. — 8 years ago
Big cab franc. Showing big fruit with enough herbaceousness to balance it out. May take a couple years to bloom but drinks great now — 9 years ago
Light yellow, acidic with a mild pepper finish. Good with fontina, toma, or a creamy goat cheese with pesto (especially the latter) on a warm summer day. — 9 years ago
Bought this on a trip to Napa. Had not heard of the vineyard previous to our visit, but was impressed at our tasting. Really nice ripe round fruit, balanced body. Not inexpensive, but a worthy spurge — 10 years ago
Great drinking wine for summer. Nice and light with a crisp finish - excellent dry rose. #thesecretwineclub #loirevalley — 10 years ago
What a value. Deep, smokey red fruit. Supple texture. — 11 years ago
Wow. A dusty primitive with Riesling like fruit acid. Tons of pairing potential. — 12 years ago
Great wine alone without a meal. Every day drinking. — 6 years ago
Quite a nice Barbaresco, and more accessible at this age than expected. Tannins are very much there but not grippy to the point of overwhelming. Deep earth and dark red fruit. Soft acid on the finish. Nice. — 8 years ago
Sea salt, pretzel, dried yellow apples, and a pervasive linger. Firm acidity still lively and ready to go another 5 at least. From this, you can get the idea why quirky Oregon producers are itching to play with Melon. — 9 years ago
Quite sweet, but not syrupy. A great dessert pairing with berries, but still enough effervescence to cut through dense fatty chocolate or other rich desserts. Dessert in a glass for me! — 10 years ago
In a great place right now. Bitter chocolate, dark cherry, a little tarry. Best window is probably in next few years — 10 years ago
Lovely. From Lorenzo's home region. With Adrienne & Mike. — 11 years ago

Amazing fresh fruit with violets, punchy red fruit with a lifted cherry quality. Very supple and dynamic with zesty delicious fruit. Excellent — 7 years ago
Fig, butterscotch, banana, cognac & alcohol dominate the nose. This wine is a monster. So intense and vibrant. Like it could not wait to be freed from the bottle. Nice tannins and acid. Flavors of biscuit, rhubarb & ripened light fruit. This wine makes you happy to love wine. Very fortunate to come across this bottle. 2006 vintage

Tasty, but too young. Still a bit disjointed and the oak stuck out. Not really knocking it, as I knew I shouldn't be touching a 2010 yet. Hope to try it again in a few years. That being said, I do think the gevrey VV is a step above. — 9 years ago
Another special find(seriously for that$$ on release) on this list at a hidden mountain bistro...beautiful floral notes , forest floor and red fruits...my best echz ever? — 10 years ago
Such a winner for $13. — 10 years ago

2020 spring. Calderara Sottana is on the north side of Etna and better known for reds. This was really nice, with lots of flowers and almonds, and a salt / acid backbone. Again, no petrol - again perhaps because of youth. I’d be curious to see how this ages compared to Pietramarina or A’Puddara — 5 years ago
