Tahbilk is Victoria's oldest family owned winery and vineyard. Marsanne was first planted here in the 1860s. Current plantings date back to 1927 and reputedly the oldest in the world. Continuing on with the White Rhone theme - Pale gold at 10 years with a pungent mineral yet sweet honeysuckle nose. Sweet honeyed palate with acid having diminished. Touch of mouldy oranges. Love it. That notorious 2011 vintage did little to stem he flow of great Chardonnay from Victoria's best vineyards and handlers. This has just enough ripeness to the citrus and stone fruits, the oak is superbly judged in its structural and flavour contribution and the acids give it great line and length. This blend of cab franc and merlot has less forward fruit than most of Russell and Victoria's wines and more expression of terroir. Beautiful aromas fresh flowers and graphite and more subtle purple fruit on the palate and a long finish. This is age worthy.
