Another night, another amazing wine from Thomas Rivers Brown. We ran into him at the vineyard, but luckily all he wanted to talk about was cars! Even though he is an Aston Martin fan, he just picked up this new Mercedes AMG GLE 63S, and was enjoying it thoroughly. So since we did not talk about this wonderful wine, I am plagiarizing their website for tasting notes...which are spot on. “Located just off Hwy 29, north of the town of St. Helena, lies the Tournahu Vineyard. Rocky with exceptional drainage, wines from this vineyard tend toward a mix of powerful fruit and bright acidity. Velvet-like in texture, the wine covers the entire palate in a silky mix of red & black fruit. With additional time in the glass, a creosote-like minerality appears in the mid palate as a harbinger of things to come. A thrilling wine to drink now, those with patience will be rewarded as additional layers of complexity emerge 4-5 years post vintage. A wine & vineyard worthy of our first single vineyard designate.” — 8 years ago

The Guigal factory is a site to behold. It's a factory that pumps out wine like Hyundais, and yet somehow they produce world class Mercedes on the side. White pepper shoots up the nose, with strawberry fruits, lavender and herb aromatics. The wine has a lightness and acidity that bounces but is well integrated and smooth, easy tannins that just bite enough to leave a nice long finish. Guigal's Cote Rotie might be one of the great wine values in the world. — 10 years ago

Old vines. Maybe the most thrilling wine I've ever had. Butter. Soft petrol not like a Riesling Mercedes — 10 years ago
My friend Jerzy remarked, "Smells like the inside of a Mercedes Benz." Leathery and elegant. Just what an old wine should be. — 11 years ago

Wonderful! I am a Mosel head, but good Alsace still takes the cake for me. Weinbach is like Mercedes-Benz of Alsace (together with Trimbach and maybe even Hugel at times) — huge in size, great in quantity and most importantly consistent in high quality of production and has long and noble history. And this bottle is a great example (while atill being affordable) of all that combined and bottled in a gorgeous flute. — 10 years ago

Really nice bottle from porter vineyards. Got this with Mercedes at forks and corks 2013. Drank it with her on 4/26/13, just before she moved to NYC. Had it with turducken. — 12 years ago
