Stags Leap Manor, as it was called in the 1920s, was known as one of the prominent country retreats in the Napa Valley at a time when resort and spa business was big. Straw yellow, with stone fruit and citrus aromas and toasty notes. On the palate melon, pineapple and pear, fresh & crisp with notes of smoky oak, a bit creamy. Lingering finish with wet stone and minerality character, well balanced, stays crisp on ending. Nice! — 7 years ago
At Aurea Manor...sampling some fine wine - thanks Shellby and Marcy! — 8 years ago
A similar effort to the Glen Manor '11, this 100% CF offering has a sturdy core and vibrant acidity to match dense, dark fruit. The finish is a touch soft and lacks the follow through but it is a decent value at $11 for 375 ML — 9 years ago
Tasted at Covela's historic estate—a Renaissance manor that sits frozen in time, poised at the mouth of the Douro Valley, along a southern-facing amphitheater robed in lush greenery. The 2013 Escolha Branco is a blend of Avesso and Chardonnay, with a few years of age, offers perfumy aromas of dried honey and orange blossom. Barrel fermentation lends texture, refinement and creaminess. This is a balanced, poetic wine, bright and fresh with delicate mineral filaments wending in and out of stone fruit. Sample — 9 years ago

Worth its sticker. Strawberries front and centre on the palate but there's some fun wet leafy complexity and smoke here. Good concentration, not boring at all. Medium body sure but plenty of intensity elsewhere! — 6 years ago
Wonderful citrus profile and requisite verve. Another exceptional vintage for Jeff White!! At $25, what a great VA value! — 7 years ago

Last Thursday I had the pleasure opening this 2010 Dominus Napanook Bordeaux Blend. 98% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Petit Verdot. I am sure that the dinner with my beautiful wife, the special occasion, the restaurant and the city we were in had a lot of influence on my rating, but isn't that why we love this incredible elixir so much. It is able to transform and transfigure any occasion or situation.
Upon opening at the table the aromas came wafting over to my senses and at the pour and swirling, dark fruit danced pleasingly into a distinct show of black cherry, blackberry, plum, licorice, black pepper, violets, vanilla, old worn leather, graphite and dark soil.
The dance that ensued once crossing my lips was as sensuous as one can get from wine. The dark fruit continues with black cherry, blackberry, black plum, black currants, black pepper, vanilla, a touch of smoky oak and beautiful earthy minerality.
This wine is everything I look for in a Bordeaux Blend. This wine took me back to when I first encountered this varietal. A full round bodied wine with medium + acidity, chewy unctous tannins that led to a long sexy finish.
Needless to say I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this evening and I wish everyone to experience wine in the manor it should be. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 8 years ago
It's been nearly a year since I first tasted this wine, but I immediately remembered why I loved this Albariño as soon as it coated my palate. It's pale straw in color and crisp, screaming summer all the way from the tip to the back of my tongue. I'm almost afraid my words won't do it justice, but there's an immediate impact of stone fruits, lemon, and salty minerality that crash together on the palate like ocean waves at high tide. It was this salty minerality that immediately made me think, "I am drinking the fruit and soil of the Galer Home Vineyard in Chester County." From the winery's tech sheet, it's absolutely the soil - Manor Loam and Glenelg Silt Loam Series - along with gift of former winemaker, Catrina North, that makes this a stellar example of Chester County, Pennsylvania wine. This was a gift from owners Brad and Lele Galer. Available at the winery for $35. http://www.galerestate.com/ — 10 years ago

Wonderfully complete - shades of RdV or Glen Manor. This has the dense violet core plus the herbal and dark berry generoisity to make Rack of Lamb and Hanger Steak at Bistro L’Hermitage sing :) — 6 years ago
