This is wonderful - a nose of fresh ripe sweet red strawberry, morphs into some raspberry. Acid builds perfectly into a balance of fruit and acid with the prevailing strawberry note at the center. Finishes also fruity with just a tinge of green fruit but just a hint, and a I mean a hint, of chalk. This balances the finish beautifully. Really world class rose. — 6 years ago
Fruity, smooth. Brought by Steven Fingerhood, purchased at D&M — 8 years ago
30 min allowed for the wine to open... Ever so slight hint of prunes from ripe plums on the nose, juicy fresh grape flavors, mid palate of earth, cedar, & acid that causes cleansing salivation across the tongue... 2007 vintage firing on all cylinders, and at a high moment, from a producer of magical Zinfandels... it's the next morning, and I'm still craving more. — 8 years ago
As a next to broke graduate student, I'm all about finding value wines, so I was pretty stoked when I tried this one. Floral nose with vegetal notes of crisp bell pepper. Sour cherry on the palette with vegetal and herbaceous characteristics and firm tannins. My only complaint is an ever so slightly bitter mid palette and finish. Overall a really nice find for a cab at $12 — 9 years ago
Wow! Black cherry, dark fruit, pepper, exotic spice, floral and even somewhat savory. Tannin and acid in balance. One of the best cabs you can buy especially at only $50 2012 vintage — 10 years ago
Burgundy meets CA. Lighter style, tons of hay and strawberry and great fullness to it despite the light color. — 10 years ago
Tasted it at the recent Anthill sale. Wow!! — 10 years ago

I’ve been holding off on drinking any of the 2012 vintage from Hirsch because the folks at the winery said this vintage that needed time in the bottle. @Bill Bender’s notes about the 2012 Hirsch Reserve encouraged me to open a bottle, and I’m glad I did. The wine was deep and broad with more earth, forest floor, mushroom, and loamy notes than I have come to expect from Hirsch wines. The structure has settled down and the more beguiling feminine aspects of the West Ridge are now showing themselves. This was fanatic with crispy roast duck at Gideon Ridge. On a side note, I’ll give a plug to that restaurant. IMHO, it’s the best restaurant in the high country, with great food, service and views. Just plan ahead because reservations are often 6-8 weeks out during the summer season. — 6 years ago
Unexpected and delightful - Pinot Noir from Southwest Virginia! From vineyards planted at 1800 feet (big diurnal range and early harvest), this silky wine sang with notes of loam and damp earth, maitake mushroom, cranberry, red cherry, raspberry compote, boysenberry, violet, lavender, black pepper, toast and wood smoke, with bracing acid and medium-plus tannins on a medium frame. A long, satisfying, and juicy finish. One to seek out that proves how careful site selection and winemaking skill can produce superb results from innovative grape/region combinations! — 6 years ago
Poses a spicy nose with a wild feeling of prunes and red table grapes. Palate is black currant, red plum, coffee. You can tell that there is a long going on here, plus a medium long finish. Pure with berry fruit. Young. I expect complexity to come with age as is typical with Geyserville. $38 at winery. — 10 years ago
This is memorable. Bright, fresh strawberry and barnyard. Young. — 10 years ago
A great find at our hotel. A jammy Lodi Zin. Lots of berry with a very smooth finish. Have enjoyed as my nightcap every night in San Fransisco. — 10 years ago
Yes, decanter is a tea pot. At a backcountry ski lodge. 2007 Vintage — 10 years ago
This one comes from a certified sustainable farm, with blackberry and dried cranberry character, a bit sweet and fruity at the end which makes it perfect for drinking by itself, it won’t go wrong with a nice steak! — 6 years ago
Can’t beat this dark, delicious Zin for the price! It’s got a nice mouthfeel and at $8.99 from Costco, I could drink it every night! — 6 years ago
Lovely and dry, fruity, probably tastes more expensive than it probably is. Served at the Whitney. — 6 years ago
Was worried it was past it's prime at 11 years and my cork fell apart. Got lucky it still had life! Big wine. Wasn't exactly my fav but it was interesting. Solid finish. — 8 years ago
2006 vintage. At Au Fil du Zinc, Chablis. Pale garnet hue. Savoury, Earth and manure nose, red currant and wild strawberry, red cherry. On the palate, medium acidity, medium body, medium plus alcohol. Full concentration. Long long finish. Licorice, mint, savoury spices, the whole shebang. More evolved than the '05. Superb. — 9 years ago
Black fruit with pleasantly dusty herbs. Pure black currant. Pure waves of rolling spice that grows with time. Not cheap, but great value for money. $50 at winery. — 10 years ago
Holy moly! Hands down the best pour of the experience at Pine Ridge. Amazing. — 10 years ago
2007 Marcassin Blue-Slide Ridge Pinot. Drank as the second red wine at the David Gray concert. Worked out well bc the Brunello was much more suited as a food wine and this wine was perfect to drink without food, after dinner and during the actual concert. Tons of fruit balanced with nice minerality. Great weight and texture in the mouth. Really enjoyed! — 10 years ago
Full body, a nice fruity taste, and a little dry at the end. Overall pretty good. — 10 years ago

2001 Ridge Monte Bello. Date night at Jar. Amazing. Didn’t decant, let it open in the glass. Dark fruit on the front, plush velvety texture, mineral, smoke, ash on the finish. So smooth. LOVE. Do NOT decant! — 5 years ago
