Old school Pinot.
Deeeelicious..... — 10 years ago
Big bold and beautiful. The bouquet flies out of the glass. My little brother introduced to Gamba and loved it since. The 2011 Starr Road brings everything black in fruit. Black cherry, blackberry, black raspberry and even a little bit of black currant. Mellow tannins give a lasting finish that slides down like liquid silk. — 11 years ago
Absolute favorite wive ever :) — 11 years ago
Old vine Papera form Carlisle. De Lic Ious!! — 12 years ago
Interesting and a little atypical nose. Just-cut cedar, moist humus (not hummus), and smoke-tinged blackberry. Some rock dust too, which i expect from Paso, but not from RRV. Full-flavored, briary blackberry fruit in the mouth. The back half of the palate has some peppery heat (which I would not expect from a Zin clocking in at only 14.2%). Dry and drying on the finish. Great with my pasta. — 7 years ago
Deep purple beauty with muddled black fruit, menthol, and graphite on the nose....a mouthful of stewed plum, white pepper, and oak shadings precede a decent tannic kick.... — 8 years ago
Truly the good stuff! — 9 years ago
Mid Ruby. Nose screams Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon. Quality at that. Herbaceous brambly cedary notes with some black fruits but essentially savoury. Medium powdery tannins with medium - acid with a persistent finish. Drink now or cellar for another 5 years. — 9 years ago
Almost ripe cherries, boysenberries. Dusty medium tannins. Lovely wine. — 10 years ago
Second qine at Cafe Enoteca... had an old world taste out of the bottle.. then got better... definitely a nice pinot — 10 years ago
Bill Griffis brought this to family dinner. Dad thinks bell pepper. — 10 years ago
Deep, inky purple in the glass with generous blackberry flavors and a spicy, tannic finish. Never met a Hartford Zin I didnt like... — 11 years ago
Holy cow, this was good. Liquid blackberry pie with loads of balanced structure. I wouldn't have guessed it was 9 years old. — 11 years ago
Still one of my favorite Pinots. Sad this is my last bottle. Really dark in color, lots of fruit left, hints of earth. Absolutely lovely. — 7 years ago
Beautiful drinking now at 29 years old. Supple, soft with plenty of fruit. Long rich finish. Drinks well now but will hold there for the couple years. — 8 years ago
Exuberant cherries, high acidity, long finish — 10 years ago
Very good with ham at Christmas dinner — 10 years ago
Love it at miller union! — 11 years ago
One of the best Zins out there in my opinion. Great balance from 90 yr old vines grown on Olivet Rd. — 11 years ago
12.5% old vine carignan, really fresh and juicy, tastes French! — 11 years ago
Michael Schamis
A beautiful, soft nose with notes of plum, blackberries, black raspberries, kirsch and a touch of wild flowers. The palate is surprisingly light and elegant with bright acidity. Flavors of black raspberries, kirsch and a touch of soy lead to notes of oak and spice. The finish is long and elegant with lingering acidity and bramble fruits. — 7 years ago
