We had great expectations for this wine. Sadly, those expectations were not realized.
On the nose, we detected iron, tart cherries and redcurrants.
On the palette, it lacks the typical opulence we have come to expect from this producer. No plush, velvety texture. Mild root vegetables and burnt oak comes to mind. We are of the view that these grapes did not reach full maturity. Good acid structure, but the wine lacks cohesion. A good example, but not great.
We paid a king's ransom for this and Plumpjack still have our hostage. sniff... — 9 years ago

20 year-old Pinot Gris? Yes indeed, and from Ed King's own collection. This exceedingly rare 1995 King Estate Oregon Pinot Gris, in flawless condition with no visual signs of oxidation—still perfectly lemon yellow with a clear rim, with mature yet exceedingly lovely notes of caramelized apple, poached pear, furniture lacquer, and later, on opening, marzipan and granulated honey. In the mouth, the acidity is surprisingly intact, vivid, and lends framework to orchard fruit tinged with walnut skins. On a side note, King Estate is currently conducting research to try to figure out why it is that their Pinot Gris ages so well. This and the other vintages I've been lucky enough to taste held up admirably upon opening, and indeed, improved over the course of the evening. Certainly, bottles like this present a compelling argument for the ageability of Oregon Pinot Gris. Sample — 10 years ago

This is the DSP Montecito chard from Chris King's Santa Barbara project. Whole-cluster fermented and unfiltered. Beautifully aromatic with bright acidity. This could easily be from burgundy. — 9 years ago

Delicious Okanagan Falls Pinot Noir. It is rich and heavy like an California Pinot. The nose is cherry and the mouth and finish are balanced and smooth. A really nice wine — 10 years ago
One of the first bottles put together for HRH Edward VII back in 1903...today known as the King's Ginger Liqueur. Ginger had sufficient time to tame and to combine with the Brandy base which results in a dramatic and glorious Herby character suggesting linden and verbeina. Great digestif! — 11 years ago
