The third of three 21-year-old single malts that we tasted at the December Old Line Scotch Club meeting. This was slightly tangy, smooth and complex. As good as it was, it was the least favorite of the three, by consensus, among the club members. #glenlivet #21 #whisky #singlemalt #oldlinescotchclub #tubbysdiner — 8 years ago
Edgy Japanese scotch whisky with a nose that evokes bourbon (corn) instead of grain. Good balance and depth of flavor on the palate with a long clean finish. Yum. — 9 years ago
Complex nature that continues to show different attributes with each sip — 9 years ago
This is a fantastic Japanese Whiskey. Nice mouth feel and a depth of flavor that keeps going. — 9 years ago
Very nice effort. Fantastic boutique upon opening with plenty of bright red fruit, gentle oak and florals. Powerful gripping tannins that calmed down with decant. Touch of heat noticeable the first 1-2hrs but fades away. Really starts to hit stride with 5+hrs decant with darker more savory notes. Long finish. — 9 years ago
Amber color that actually looks like a topaz stone. Incredible nose. Figs, dates, caramel, whisky, vanilla toast, toffee. Dry #sherry with an almost acidic sensation and lots of bitters and a never-ending finish of coffee salt and blood oranges — 9 years ago
The Balvenie makes some truly fantastic Scotch at all levels of aging. Having said that, every time they release a new batch of their Single Barrel 15yr aged varietal I do whatever I can to snag a bottle, and I'm not only never let down, I'm generally blown away. — 10 years ago
Amarone cask finished? So silky & sexy that it's almost not Scotch.

Small boutique winery. A Recito style wine made from grape bunches that were dried in the classic method by drying "clusters of grapes on mats of straw in the sun" for four months. Aged for 36 months in French oak barrels and bottled unfiltered. Full-bodied blend of Shiraz, Grenache and Merlot. Complex, rich, dark fruit, spices. Liqueur or Cognac comes to mind. Sweet, refined, smooth, long finish. — 11 years ago
Ethereal texture, deep haunting flavor... Some of that good stuff :) — 8 years ago
The second 21-year-Old Single malt that we tasted at the December meeting of the Old Line Scotch Club December meeting. Round and mellow, rich and layered. My favorite of the three. #balvenie #21yearold #portwood #whisky #singlemalt #oldlinescotchclub #tubbysdiner — 8 years ago
Lately, I've been on the lookout for a single malt from Islay that I could get into, because in the past I havent enjoyed peat and smoke. I took a recommendation from a colleague and brought home a bottle of Highland Park, which was a perfect segway into peat. Most of the peat was for aromatics, along with a dab of smoke, ocean spray(NOT THE JUICE), and sweet fruits. The pallet was a little hot, but with a light dose of filtered water, things evened out perfectly. Due to being finished in sherry casks, the pallet shows equal part honey, cherry, nutmeg, and on the other side smoked chocolate and herbaceous peat undertones. The finish is delightful and smooth. Next try will be something with a little more peat and less sweet!

Jee wiz this is good. A delicious highlands single malt aged in 6 different casks; wine, madeira, sherry, marsala, Kentucky bourbon, and port casks. What does that crazy concoction produce? A ridiculously rich, fruitful, smooth delight in a glass. There is such a complex craze to the nose, one of vanilla cool whip, tropical fruits similar to the nose in a Sauternes, melted dark chocolate, malt, and cedarwood. Then comes the pallet, a wonderful marriage of chocolate covered orange cream, spices, malt, sea salt caramel, and ripe papaya, finishing in a playful white pepper and last second, faint memory of oak lace.
That was exhausting. I'm going to go ahead and finish this complementary glass, and savor these last few moments. This is the definition of comfort in a bottle. — 9 years ago
Still overpriced, but this scotch is still one of the richest sherry finished malts around that doesn't go overboard (as some might claim of the Aberlour Abunadh.) Thick and substantive in the mouth, it's giving with piney malt and rich red fruit from the sherry butts. Perfect neat - like all good whisky. — 9 years ago
So tonight's dinner is Tortière so I went down to the cellar to find something to match. I found this 2011 Organized Crime Pipe Down is a beautiful Cab Blend from an interesting small Beamsville boutique winery. The experience of this wine starts with walking in to the winery and chatting with the owner Krystyna Tarasewicz. She comes across as a bit stern but is actually quite charming. The bottles of wine are very high quality but also beautiful due to the art on the labels that tell the story of the name of the winery. Drop in and listen to it! Tasting notes: the wine is young so the color is still a deep red. The nose shows berries and give promise for a balanced glass to follow. My first few sips reinforce my recollection of this wine as a great value for the quality. Tannins and alcohol balance nicely with just enough fruit to lay for several more years. Now I need to see whether I have any more bottles either on or off-site! — 10 years ago
Very drinkable. The rum cask gives it a sweet finish. A good tipple for those that don't like a bold whisky. — 10 years ago
One of those situations that can't be helped: marvellous wine that I'll likely never see again. Boutique producer in Mendoza that we picked up there. — 10 years ago
Detect that! — 11 years ago
Nice single malt , third scotch that night drank it too fast don't remember much just clean — 8 years ago
Very good whiskey. Mellow at 21 years. I found it very Scotch like but not experienced with Japanese whisky. Delightful. "When in Rome Do as the Romans!" 158 weeks later on 6th April 2019 I received an email back in Australia offering purchase of a bottle for $2000!!!!! Somebody is making a killing if they are getting people to shell out money like that. I don’t recall paying $100s for a nip in Tokyo. — 9 years ago
This is, in my humble opinion, simply one of the greatest scotches sold today that I have ever tasted. I kept some peated barley from the distillery for years after my visit and the remarkable smokiness from those grains lasted for years. — 9 years ago
Well-blended, creamy, & delicious. I, also, agree that Brendan's is much more delicious than Bailey's. Even better, it's HALF the price, too!
I love a good Nutty Irishman with Brendan's, Frangelico, & my Organic Valley Lactose-Free 1% milk. YUM! 😋 — 9 years ago
Could be my new favorite for Scotch with well integrated peat and finely etched pear notes that dance on the palate — 9 years ago
The best of the new and old worlds...rich and sweet scented, round and fulsome, earthen and substantive with a wisp of smoke that calls one in from the crisp outdoors. — 10 years ago
The first whiskey that I really enjoyed! — 10 years ago
Floral and citrus notes. Caramel finish that doesn't linger too long. Easy to drink. — 10 years ago
This is from one of 39 bottles that came from a barrel of Scotch bottled by Bruichladdich under the Port Charlotte label. It was distilled in 2001 and bottled in 2009, with a 7 year age statement. It's sweet bacon on the nose and spicy, smokey maple candy on the palette. — 11 years ago
It's scotch, and amazing at that — 11 years ago

Yes! THE best whisky that I have had to date!! — 8 years ago
