This wine exudes the terroir of the mountain slope south of Lake Hennessey. The cool breeze coming off the water, the 100+ year old olive trees and pomegranate trees that surround the vineyard are all there in the nose. The palate shows silky smooth inky dark fruit, but without the overly tannic bite of a cab, and a funky earthiness reminiscent of a pinot. Delicious, complex wine. — 9 years ago

Wine nerd alert!! 🍷La Rioja morning. The mountains surround the region and hold the morning fog in keeping the temperatures down in the valley. You can see that much like the Napa Valley there are many microclimates here making for interesting viticulture. The soils are comprised of a chalky, powder-like dirt with large pebbles making for ample aeration. The vines range from 40-50 years old up to more than 100 years old. The difference is noticeable on the wines. The young and old producing equally beautiful but unique juice. The young, red wines are non-complex easy drinking and the older ones provide some layers to contemplate. The white wines made with indigenous grape varietals are dry, crisp and give aromas of honey, white flowers and melon. Cheers my friends. — 8 years ago
