The '16 Von der Fels was gorgeous, with an almost savory bouquet, displaying provencal herbs up front, followed by notes of green apple, lemon, and crushed seashell. On the palate, I found weighty textures, yet nearly imperceptible; the result of a mix of intense tart citrus, zippy acidity and saline-minerality with a spring of lemon zest and savory herbs that revisited toward the close. The finish was fresh with a lasting buzz of mineral-strewn citrus and minerals. The longer this wine sat in the glass, the more it seemed to grow — 8 years ago
The volume is turned way up on this 2015 Albert Mann Gewürztraminer. The nose explodes with pungent aromas of canned pear, lychee, musk melon, jasmine, and spice. Nervy acidity cleanly dissect a palate that is rich and viscous—there's lots of energy and tension in this wine along with a finish strewn with white pepper, jasmine tea, lemongrass and crystalline minerality. A wonderful value. 14.0% ABV | Sample — 9 years ago

Short on aroma but long on taste. Refreshing when cold. Not overly sweet — 11 years ago
Really good thing! It’s super nice chilled, tbh. Rose petals strewn over uncut suede, blueberries crushed on satin bedsheets, the actual smell of the well-worn leather jacket my dad wore when I was a kid, and I’m wondering if he still has. Super-duper. — 7 years ago

Strewn Cabernet Franc Icewine — 9 years ago
The flinty, slate strewn, earth and mineral driven bouquet yields only to the embrace of an array of fresh citrus fruits - grapefruit, pomelo, eureka lemon, kaffir zest. A more satisfyingly complex palate could not be found after such an introduction. This is an inspiring sauvignon blanc moving us beyond like to love. — 9 years ago
Nice start of blue and black berry. Finishes soft with vanilla and some hints sweetness. This is not a tart wine, I find it smooth. All in all nice. Paired with spicy and sweet lamb chops. — 10 years ago
The Chave for the rest of us? As a huge fan of Chave Hermitage, but not of the price and decades you need to wait while allowing them to mature, The Chave Saint Joseph is a great alternative. The bouquet displayed layers upon layers of dark fruits, roasted plum, grilled herbs, black earth, charred meats and dark floral tones. On the palate, it was lifted and finessed, but deceiving so, as its fruit intensity came forward with time in the glass. There's a savory richness to its black fruits, which were strewn with chiseled minerality and inner floral notes. Dark floral tones, bacon fat, and the freshest, ripe cherry fruit you can imagine, lingered on the finish. This is a serious wine that's just waiting to be truly discovered. — 10 years ago

Al Shikoh

light orange; pink grapefruit, strawberry, blood orange, rhubarb; pink grapefruit, watermelon, very mineral; light bodied, dry, high acidity, 12.8% ABV; sourced from dry-farmed, head-trained Carignan planted mid-century in red clay soil strewn with fist sized rocks; fruit was hand-harvested, berries purposely “broken”, then whole-cluster pressed and fermented in stainless steel until dry, slow malolactic fermentation; super fresh and appealing rosé; $22 — 6 years ago
