Domaine Jean-Louis Chave

Saint-Joseph Syrah 2007

Quite sauvage with notes of green olive, dried black olive, soy and herbs supporting the plum and cassis fruit. Great texture with supple tannins. The flavors are earthy and bright with blackberry and cassis fruit. Lovely length on the spiced earthy mineral finish. — 7 years ago

Brasserie de Blaugies

Darbyste Ale brewed with Fig Juice

Big, just-off-white crown lingers over dark, orange-amber, but once it resides is nearly laceless with isolated organic, punctuating archipelagos. Initial, buttery nutritional yeast, crystalline mangrove honey, magnolias, marigold, candied lemon peel and sweet rosemary, but don't let the fig addition and the sweet aromatics fool you; sour and underripe complexity ensues. Medium-heavy, unfiltered mouthfeel feels petulant, but swallows almost flat due to the dichotomy of dryness. Dried and underripe apricot combo, pineapple essence, gooseberry, chalk, snail shell, gravel dust, dried violets, fishbone, key lime, tangerine zest, and leek. A bright, green, mineral-driven offering. #farmcharm #saison #Darbyste #biere #bier #beer #brasseriedeblaugies #artisinale #nonfiltre #wit #blanche #bierdarbyste #belgian #belgianbeer #familyowned — 8 years ago

Great vintage. Needs an hour to breath. Very well balanced. Full bodied. Smokey, leather, coffee, pepper, soy... brilliant!! This wine has all the right components to last another 10 years at least. — 9 years ago

Château Margaux

Premier Grand Cru Classé Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 1954

What a treat. From the company to the antics of the cork removal, all was fantastic. Not surprised with some immediate mustiness on the nose, giving way to a rich but smooth aged blue cheese, mushrooms, soy sauce, earth, and just a faint hint of dried red fruit. Over the next 20 minutes the glass development was out of control, changing with each and every whiff and sip. Earthy umami, oxidative, and and slightly stewed reds to begin quickly opened to nice dried strawberries on the palate and nose, and advancing to moderately subdued ripened strawberries and cranberries- after 61 years and still kickin with fruit! Amazing. Then after about 20 minutes of rapid metamorphosis, it gave in and decided to fade to a very pleasant sipper...awesome. — 9 years ago

Much richer on the nose than the 08. Fruits are riper as well. Strong black raspberry cola, mint & eucalyptus, sage, blackberries, black raspberries, black plum, plum, anise and decayed dark florals. On the palate; lots of lifting heated spices immediately at it sets. Blackberries, black raspberries, black plum, plum, black raspberry cola, mint & eucalyptus, sage, anise, underbrush, soft leather, wood shavings, soy, fair amount of baking spices, good round acidity and a thick, round, elegant long finish. — 8 years ago
