Fruity, plucky, and wonderfully dark and rich. A soft brown leather in the finish that only makes you want to come back for another sip. — 7 years ago

Black Label Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Medium bodied, lithe fine sandy tannin that stretches and stretches, leaner than previous vintages, black fruited with something purple/violet going on. Bought for $25 at dans, fantastic value, picked up a dozen :) — 8 years ago

Coonawarra Cabernet-Merlot Blend 2004

A wow wine when first tasted 5 years ago when the delicious cassis, black currant fruit was more prominent. More savoury dusty leathery notes now 11 years down the track. A very harmonious balanced Cabernet (65%) Merlot (35%) blend from an excellent vintage in Coonawarra. Will cellar for another 5 to 10 years. — 9 years ago

Parker Coonawarra Estate

Terra Rossa First Growth Red Bordeaux Blend

We had the 2005 at the Cabernet tasting. No. 6. 15% alcohol. Great full bodied fruit flavours and intensity. Not particularly typical Cab profile. Will live for ages. Plenty of fruit tannin and acid. — 10 years ago

Grapefruit Sculpin India Pale Ale

Perfect for summer. The grapefruit isn't overpowering but the acidity of the fruit and the bitterness of the rind is very noticeable. Balanced, sharp and hoppy. One of the best IPA's I've ever had. — 10 years ago

Have a great birthday, Chris, but this place looks awful and these are clearly chicken goujons.

Black Label Coonawarra Shiraz 2010

Initial flavours - Blackberry, spice, mint, pencil shavings with a hint of chocolate. Decanted and left to breathe for a good couple of hours. BBQ'd some scotch fillet steaks and whacko, what a feast. The wine had mellowed significantly and blackberry flavours came to the fore over the spice and tannins. Cracking experience. Savoured every last drop. — 8 years ago

Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

No 7 tasted Coonawarra Cab at the Tasting. The best of the inexpensive Cabernets IMO. Very balanced. Could be drunk now with great satisfaction or cellared for 5+ years. All the Cabernet descriptors apply. Loved it. — 10 years ago

Yalumba

The Menzies Coonawara Cabernet Sauvignon

I had the 2010 vintage... It was delicious. It needs some air (give or take 30 min) to get rid of a slight musty smell but even immediately after pouring it tastes amazingly balanced! Very round cab sav with tastes of blackberries and cassis and even some cheeky but very welcomed hint of soil. Perfect combination for my lamb. Will definitely try it again! — 10 years ago

Temecula Valley Cabernet Franc 2007

Easily the smoothest vintage of this franc (judging from a vertical '07-13). Soft bing cherries on the tongue. Super light tannins but still has legs. This is for drinking right now. — 8 years ago

Laira Vineyards Blockers Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

A cut above the good base standard Coonawarra wines. Worth paying for if you want a wine that makes you notice its qualities. 2012 vintage means it is even better than usual. — 9 years ago

Iona

Mr. P Pinot Noir 2014

Bright fruit scent accompanied with much more subtle fruit palette as I guess is to be expect for PN. Nice sharper fruits which suit it well for a great crisp taste and not overly lingering. Nice tannin presence that drops off quickly as well, making you want another swig! Plenty of booze and plum stuff on the end. — 10 years ago

St. Hugo

Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Good but expected more fruit for the excellent vintage. Noticeable tannin. Will the fruit be there in 10 years? 4th Cab in the tasting. — 10 years ago

The Bruery

Black Tuesday Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout

Matt Austin
9.3

2014 rum barrel aged variant. 18.9% alc!!! This is big, sweet and boozy. Dessert beer for sure. It has complexity, but not on the level of the bourbon barrel aged original. Still has more balance than just about any beer in this alcohol range and it's a pleasure to drink. Will be better with some age. — 10 years ago
