I am so glad I gave this wine a second, more sober, look. I have been harsh on Grenache/Grenache blends, but it just reinforced the fact that one can only judge wines, not varieties. This wine just needed 4 days of air before its real self could appear. It is a profound expression of red fruit with notes of persimmon, bay leaf, orange rind, and more. An aged bottle should be very good. — 11 years ago

The gal who tried it again sober was right on — 11 years ago
Exceptional complexity of a mountain Nebbiolo, serious, with a very sober demeanor and well put together. Bravo, Monsecco !

1962 vintage. Too drunk to assess. However those more sober liked it a lot — 11 years ago
Late post from my bday bash! Year 2000 in magnum...still partying like it's 1999! — 12 years ago

Great Pinot. Brought by Gilberts to end of summer birthday bash. — 13 years ago
Don't make this your tenth drink of the night, it's not fair to anyone. SOBER EDIT: tried this again after a beast of an Amarone and prefer this. Something about that old world, rustic, dry lingering flavoring suggests authenticity in the face of all these showy fruit and sugar forward overpriced glamour bombs. We have a great wine here. Perhaps still not as impressive as it could be, but a great wine nonetheless. — 9 years ago
In a league of its own. It's so singular I'm not really sure what to do with it. I think I need a much more sober and focused state to really get into this chick. Discover this if you can. — 10 years ago

Couple of people's last shift at Toasted, so there is a certain festive atmosphere and quite a few bottles have already been drunk, so I was in a positive mood when this came out; but even stone-cold Catholic-mass sober I'd still say you'd enjoy this one; sort of sherbert and gooseberries. Love this, more comments to come.....when I'm sober. — 11 years ago
Definitely better with time so give it some and you'll be rewarded. I'd been drinking awhile by the time we opened this, but if you told me then it was a barbera, I would have believed you. Now I have to try sober (psych psych psych) — 11 years ago
This ones got character. Lost at sea with me and whole bunch of bitches from the northern rhone she seems exotic and she's speaking a different language. Zingy, acidic, bright...yet with concentration and zest. I can see her peppery and leather genetics in her eyes. I only wish I'd stayed sober enough to get closer to her and enjoy all of her nuances. A good rating because I feel like opening another just to repeat the experience. Very different I must say. — 11 years ago
Enjoyed this wine. Would like to try it sober. — 11 years ago
Petroleum Summer Beach Bash! SPF 69 — 13 years ago
Take a dill pickle from a good deli and bash it around in a well-made humidor then set that whole affair in front of a bowl of blackberry conserves. Et voila! Initial impressions. With air, this sheds the dill and cedar and replaces it with wintergreen. Overall a beautiful expression of a difficult and contentious variety. Satisfy your curiosity here; you'll enjoy it. — 9 years ago

Good pairing to a birthday dinner bash after some J Schram 2006!!! — 11 years ago
Superb wine, not pretentious. Not on the dry side, more on the frutish side, but sober. Astringenic, round, and with strong body. Try it as a fantastic entry bottle. An everybody favorite, easy to love. — 11 years ago
Complex and worth decanting to allow to breath. Will try again when sober. — 11 years ago
I keep thinking I've added this one and the app keeps saying I haven't, so I'm doing it cold sober on Sunday morning. Total fave. — 12 years ago

Whoa. Wicked find at a good price. Oldest macalese I have had and it didn't disappoint. Had that tangy fruity Italian theme. Wonderful bramble, leathery type palette. Tannins almost non existent. There was one more bottle left at the wine shop. I will need to go back and get it when I sober up. — 9 years ago
