Pretty average all around. I had higher expectations, but they weren’t fulfilled. I have had no luck with higher priced white wines. Maybe I’m just drinking excellent value lower priced ones, because I find them much better! — 6 years ago

Ozanne Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Champagne Chardonnay

Another amazing wine from MJ’s cellar, and this time a rare bird made by another Selosse disciple. Almost an antithesis of the voluminous and opulent 80’s Krug Grand Cuvee, this was filigreed, precise, and pure. Not austere though, which these descriptors can sometimes allude to. This had concentration and ripeness, yet remains fresh and airy. Ripe citrus fruits balance some oxidative hazelnut and toffee characters, all framed in a deep mineral and acid cut. Perfect aperitif to the evening and a wine I’d like to try again if it weren’t so difficult to come by. — 3 years ago

La Closerie Les Béguines Extra Brut Champagne Pinot Meunier 2014

Very yeasty on the nose with Granny Smith Apple notes and pronounced minerality. 94% Pinot Meunière 2% Pinot Gris, 2% Chardonnay, and 2% Pinot Noir. Wild fermented and aged 10 months in barrels; 2.5grams/Litre dosage. Only 13,000 bottles made so it is difficult to source in Australia. Consumed this Champagne in Zalto Burgundy glasses like I had been advised to do with Jacques Selosse, a close colleague of Jerome Prevost. As both of these producers say these are wines first and Champagnes second so why not Burgundy glasses. Finishes very dry with cleansing acid. LC14 - year of harvest. Good and different. — 6 years ago

Between the top three Champagne I can afford, it has always been. Zalto glasses are a must, once you try them you can't go back

@Ceccherini Cristiano Yes traditional champagne flutes may look good with the bubbles rising up but they make judging the Champagne difficult IMO. There appears to be a trend towards more traditional wine glasses when drinking Champagne.

@Bob McDonald I personally started drinking Champagne in standard shape glass about 15 years ago
It is indeed a spectacular wine and then a fizzy one. And if you are lucky enough you will meet again an evolution after it loses the bubble with time. Then you deeply realize you've always dealt with a wine

Alex, you didn't miss out not ordering the pig! Tough, with little flavor. The lamb, on the other hand, was fantastic. Also, had delicious meal and wine pairing at Verjus.
