This was bomb. Fresh, terroir driven, complex and lengthy, a true wine of place and vintage. So much textural depth and grip as well. Struck flint, crushed oyster shell, crisp orchard fruits and lemon, sea spray, loads of earth and cheese rind. So vibrant and alive. I could drink this everyday — 7 years ago
Red fruit leather, fresh sweet tarragon, smoked red currant, pressed dry cassis, a slight oyster shell to light purple olive. Baked brick and slight red pepper flake on the long finish. — 7 years ago
What a killer Vaillons. This is insane. Perfumed nose of classic oyster shell, some nice green apple fruit and Meyer lemon. Smokey, saline, refined and even some apple butter. Great aromas. So refined and clean. Almost feels like there is so much more. Palate is so epic and deep with grace, depth and refinement. Juicy and serene with a sweetness the oyster juice quality. More west coast than east coast. So pure, resonant and long. What a great vintage 2014 is. — 8 years ago

Conch shell pink, Jean-Luc Colombo's Les Pins Couchés Rosé is a pretty blend of 67% Syrah and 33% Mourvedre sourced from Cape Bleue, a maritime-influenced site just outside Marseille. The 2016 delivers white peaches, raspberries, cherries, and line-dried linen, but what I'm most excited about what this wine does on the palate. The influence of calcarious soils dominates this blend—texturally, it's almost slippery in the mouth, reminiscent of slip casting with fine porcelain clay. Bright and buoyant, a perfect wine for summer. 13.0% ABV — 9 years ago
Luminous gold colour with a barrel aged salt lemon taste, smooth barrel age with oyster shell tingles — 10 years ago
From the Tour dArgent wine list. FnA. This is amazing Chablis. Light to med gold. Closed at first. Just wait... There it is. Kermidgean white soil and white rock stone. Shell bits. Over 3 hrs this built into that honeyed mineral stone pit fruit thing that is aged Raveneau. It's what got me interested in Chablis. It's why that disease continues. — 11 years ago
Rather muted nose of oyster shell, lemon and flint - awesome evolution on the palate fatty in the middle with a lingering finish. Fantastic. Competes at GC level - this one feels a bit quieter at the start, but its lingering finale completes a perfect picture. Aerate. — 6 years ago
To begin, a very nice Côte de Léchet, but I think that Jean Dauvissat does this 1er Cru best.
Nose is cooked lemon, lemon pith, light/wet limestone and under-ripe white peach.
Palate has fresh, steamed lemon, crunchy oyster shell soup and lemon curd (light).
Solid wine, plus 2016, nice QPR. — 7 years ago
Medium gold. Heavy in the glass. Opened decanted for an hour. Knockout nose. Notes of lemon, white stone with some oyster shell, and a bit of honey develops over time. Rich luscious fruit in the mouth. Acidity hides in the first few hours, then powers up. Great juice. — 7 years ago
Super mineral and sea shell nose with typical linear Chablis acidity at the core buttressed with fruit and oak. Nice. — 9 years ago
Stoney lemon curd, hint of brown butter, minerals for days. Young, deep and pedigreed like a young Roosevelt at Harvard. Slightest hint of oyster shell, as if I ate a few Hog Islands before tasting. Opulent in the middle, intensely dry and vervey in the finish. Infanticide, but I'm ok with that! — 10 years ago
Never thought a Texas wine would be this good....,

Superb Chitry from Alice et Olivier de Moor. Flinty, oyster shell, white nectarine, lemon pithe. — 12 years ago
Really pleasant. Dry. Beautiful nose. 11.9%. Lemon peel and pears. I'm impressed. — 13 years ago
Fresh and linear. Sea shell and lime. Saline finish. — 6 years ago
Medium gold. Nice weight. Citrus and sea shell nose. Also notes of white stones, sweet kiwi and some tan spice. Rich and powerful in the mouth, a bit disjointed, but it began to come together with air. Shows a little more age than I would expect but its a nice drink now. — 7 years ago
One of CA's oldest wineries, Far Niente, founded in 1885 by world traveler John Benson. The winery flourished until Prohibition, at which time it was abandoned and fell into complete disrepair. The stately stone shell of a winery was purchased in 1979 by Gil Nickel. Tropical and stone fruit aromas with complex spice and oak notes. On the palate apple, melon and citrus flavors, creamy, with toasty oak, fig and honey tones. Lingering finish ending with vibrant acidity & mineral character. Consistent. Nice! — 8 years ago
High pitched and vivid with lovely floral accents to the flinty, saline driven nose. Pretty lemon peel, mandarin orange and crisp apple fruit. The wines is electric on the palate with citrus zest and lemon fruit. It is crystal clear with superb mineral, oyster shell notes. Finish is bright and complex with superb extract. This is young but so tasty. — 9 years ago
Had 95 Trotanoy many times in the past year. This bottle was the most closed down. Only started to come out of its shell after 3 hours. A bit green and acidity a touch high. The balance is excellent though. May be entering an awkward phase. — 10 years ago
Ocean spray, crushed sea shell, beautiful minerality, drinks like a Chablis...elegant — 11 years ago
