Serena Cordero

Rivata

Casa Rossa Red Blend

Another Serena like wine. Good flavor easy to drink. I agree with the post about adding vodka to it, that sounds amazing. Dessert wine for sure. Very sweet but smooth for beginner wine drinkers like myself. — 5 years ago

Cordero di Montezemolo

Barbera d'Alba 2016

Amazing wine. Bold and beautifully structured. Strong notes of cherry and tobacco... medium-long finish. — 8 years ago

Balanced & powerful earthiness with longevity. Deep, gorgeous color, like Serena. Complex versatility and bigger victories ahead, once opened. Initial anise & brandied, dark stone fruit. Table with lamb or smoked game. …or a polish with mustard. — 10 years ago

Cordero di Montezemolo

Bricco Gattera Barolo Nebbiolo 2010

The nose was perfumed and intense with dried flowers, rich black cherry, roasted nuts, exotic spice, balsamic tones, gravel dust and hints of undergrowth. On the palate, it was silky with vibrant currents of acidity ushering in dark fruits, cedar and spice notes. Mounting tannin coated the palate throughout the finish, drying out the fruit and reminding me that this is a young Barolo. — 10 years ago

Domaine Denis Berthaut

Les Arvelets Fixin 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2013

I think Denis Berthaut's impact on Fixin is invaluable. He showed how an often overlooked terrior can produce truly elegant and transparent wines. This mantra and his mantle has been passed down to his very capable daughter, Amelie, and it's been up, up, up ever since. I'm a big fan of Amelie's wines!

2013 is Amelie's first vintage and her changes are clear - more oak, stems, and supposedly warmer ferments resulted in deeper, more complex wines. And it's constantly changing as she finds her stride. This is especially obvious in this cuvee.

The 13' Les Arvelets is a little richer than their newer iterations, which is reasonable given the difficult vintage - it was a late harvest due to the rain. Darker fruit, but crystal clear. The palate's really crunchy, pure fruit, herbal elements... think cincau... deep minerality, fine fine texture, lovely acidity. In a way like Serena Williams... There's a strong nearly brutal element, yet undeniably feminine (cliché I know but oh so true) and elegant. I do prefer more recent vintages of this vineyard, but this was excellent... Such a balanced wine!

I said it before and I'll say it again... Amelie's the next big thing, if not already one. The viti is more thoughtful than ever... Winemaking so detailed and smart. The sheer potential here... Especially with her mother's Gevry, Chambolle, and Vosne vineyards now under her sleeves... And her incredibly talented fiancé, Nicolas Faure, managing the domaine's vineyeards 🔝🔝🔝

Fun stuff, really enjoy Fixin, the herbal/earthy notes have always been attractive to me, more so than other regions.

Langhe Nebbiolo 2012

Rose and herb aroma, light rose color, cherry flavors, some earthiness, hints of spice, nice acidity, firm tannins. Nice dry finish with fruity and smokey notes. Still very young and could age for bit. Soft, but complex. We decanted and I chilled mine just a bit. Luckily, we have 2 decanters as my husband does not like chilled wine. Paired very well with a bolognese sauce with fresh basil and parmesan. — 11 years ago
