Sella & Mosca

Brut Torbato

I was curious to try this forgotten grape, which was saved by Sella & Mosca, and I’m glad I did! Starting off with the issues, they must have had some stabilization issues because there’s a bit of sediment so the glass has zero bubbles within seconds of being poured. The nose is fruity but with great restraints on ripeness, with white peach, pear, some lemon and plenty of salinity. Good acidity on the palate, the salinity is prominent together with a touch of phenolics which doesn’t detract from the experience. This would be great with some time on the lees, I think that’s what they do for their premium bottle — 3 years ago

Lessona Piedmont Nebbiolo Blend 1961

The 1961 Lessona from Tenuta Sella is alive and kicking! Plenty of acidity and red fruit, it pops with a surprising freshness for a wine of such age. A rather excellent companion while catching up with a friend from (high) school.
$199 on the Maialino wine list in NYC, which is packed with such gems.

@Brian Szluk exactly right. The wine was a beautiful translucent ruby color, all the way to the edges. For sure there was plenty of aging - lots of tertiary notes coming through, but its freshness was surprising. I'd say it has another decade or two of life in it at least.

Lessona Omaggio a Quintino Sella Nebbiolo Blend 2010

Alto-Piemonte/ Lessona at its best. Dark-medium ruby red with orange / brown edges. The dark color comes from 15% Vespolia. Floral notes, spicy, tobacco and some dark berries. Medium body with fresh acidity and a long finish. — 4 years ago

Costera Cannonau di Sardegna 2018

Italy. Red. Sardegna. Another great red from Sardegna. I’ve decided I like cannonau. This one is more fruity than the Sella & Mosca with black cherry and plum notes. I actually might prefer it but both are great, used this in cooking and enjoying with a hearty tomato-based pasta. My favorite wines thus far have been from the Italian island regions: Sardinia and Sicily. $14. 13% alc by vol. — 5 years ago

Tanca Farrà Alghero Cannonau Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

Yummy! Super Sardinian :) 50/50 Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cannonau - hmmm it's delicious, garnet color and medium body - pomegranate, plums, raisins and liquor cherries (Grenache higher alcohol) with ripe but medium+ tannins . It fruity, but with acidity "Chuck Norris" kick from Cabernet. — 8 years ago
