In 2011, I stopped for lunch along the Red River in Avanos, Turkey. Our group had a wonderful meal in a scenic setting. My friends new I was a wineaux and the host brought out an earlier vintage of this wine. The 2012 has the weight and funk of a Pinot Noir and the tannins and structure of Sangiovese. The nose reminds me of earthy wildflowers and the palate has red and blue fruit compote, cola, and a touch of sweet oak. Balanced and enjoyable, I think the 2012 is good through 2027. — 8 years ago

Really nice balance of peach & melon. Delicious ripe fruit but very delicate in "sweetness". It's like that step just before semi-sweet. It's just so easy to drink. Absolutely delicious with or without food! I enjoyed it with some slow cooked pork & sauerkraut for New Year 2016. I only wish I had bought more. On the nose, green apple, lemon, lime, green melon, light butter, wood shavings, buttered popcorn, yellow & white florals. On the palate, green apple, lemon, lime, grapefruit, citrus blossoms, gentle, soft minerals with brilliant acidity. Photos of the amazing view from the Carrick terrace and grapes just delivered and waiting to be destined and pressed. Visited the winery in person while in CA for business and got a chance to meet some of the Nichelini family descendants in person. Very nice and pleasant people! The winery is a smaller one just on the outskirts of Napa in the mountains. The visit makes for a pleasant scenic drive. The Cab was one of the best that they were sampling on the day I visited. There are earthy, floral hints and a bold flavor. — 10 years ago

BlueBird Hill Cellars is a tiny winery located in Monroe, Oregon—one can find it navigating a series of winding, scenic backroads between Salem and Eugene, that wend their way to the foothills of the Coastal mountain range, their 2016 Duology is a blend of 55% Viognier and 45% Chardonnay that emits pear, white peach, white flowers, and coconut flake on the nose. The attack feels quite dry, but there is a subtle nuanced sweetness at the core, like tender peaches at the height of ripeness nicely balanced by nicely balanced by a mouthwatering burst of acidity that adds length to a gently meandering finish. — 8 years ago
