Domaine Lionnet

Terre Brûlée Cornas Syrah 2010

This took about 5-6 hours to finally open up, and I wish I had the patience to wait till night 2. Sadly, I think I was several years to early as it still felt it had more to give. Currently on a Northern Rhone tour and Cornas was my next stop. This wine presented all the brooding, dark leather, herbaceous, and bramble flavors I expected, but turned supple and hit me with peppered blackbeery and plum. Really great wine, can't wait till it peaks and I will get a few more bottles to make sure I'm there when it does. — 8 years ago

Ancient Peaks

Paso Robles Petite Sirah 2011

I had this as part of my club shipment but hadn't gotten around to opening it right away. What a pleasant surprise it was when I finally got around to it. My wife used the aerator and I did not but after a little time sitting open it was just as good without. The first thing you will notice is the deep rich color that's so good you think you should be able us it for a royal gown. I love a jammy and intense wine. I wasn't disappointed. Now I have to get more before they sell out. — 9 years ago

Rockpile Winery (Mauritson)

Pritchett Peaks Vineyard Zinfandel 2012

Another solid zin from Rockpile! Blackberry and boysenberry greet your nose, along with some pepper and spice. Dark fruit dominates the palate--tannins were a little assertive at first, but our aerating pourer toned it down nicely. So would decanting. — 7 years ago

Sundried tomatoes with some dried oregano and herbs. Little bit of olives. Acid is nice. Sole cranberry sandal wood and Rose hips contrast and no so subtle mineralality. The kekfrankos is the Same as the blaufrankisch. 1530s the bull's blood wine. The story goes that the people were surrounded, drank all the wine and charged an attack against the Ottoman Empire. Killed the head of the snake and they scattered. Not sure if the legend is true but it's The only town in the Ottoman Empire area that has been left pristine. 😏 regardless it's a darn good wine — 9 years ago

Mas de Boislauzon

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2015

Mas de Boislauzon has been my go to wine when I'm craving for a glass of full bodied, contemporary styled, affordable CdP. Although I think it usually peaks at around 5-7 years, it is more than drinkable young. Fruit forward without being overly jammy. Blackberry, pine tree, oak on the nose. Full bodied with medium to high tannins on the palate. Some floral notes on the finish, perhaps violet. Perfect wine for the upcoming holiday season. — 7 years ago

Aux Murgers Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2009

9.2

Lots of fresh raspberry on the nose when opened and then turned into softer mesmerizing dried fruit, mushroom and chocolate. High acidity on the palate, medium body with quite some tannin in the background covered by this fresh fruit and acidity. It is approachable now and certainly has a couple of years before it peaks. — 8 years ago

Monteverro

Toscana Chardonnay 2009

Andrew Lampasone
9.1

A very rich Chardonnay on the nose ripe tropical fruit Monteverro is the name of the area. Great terroir volcanic eroded soils with clay. They wanted to make the coche dury of Tuscany vanilla creme a hint of butterscotch clay retains water very well and is like a sponge all the Chardonnay planted at the bottom of the hill with the clay soils. Very rich bouquet limestone changes the ph they transfer the wines in stainless to preserve the freshness to keep the acid. Very creamy on the palate very rich and well endowed vanilla spice and wonderful fruit tropical with great freshness and balance very long finish 45+ most excellent only 150 cases produced this is the second vintage of Chardonnay. The average temperature is higher in the maremma but they do not have the peaks — 11 years ago
