Dominus Estate

Dominus Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1999

Not my favorite vintage of Dominus but paired well when served blind with the 00 Lynch Bages showing Bordeaux like notes of red & black fruits, cassis, earth, cedar & leather that was not as rich & aromatic as the LB. — 7 years ago

Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

This wine amazed me, I’ve had it before and it’s never shown this well, maybe just hitting it’s stride? Beautiful perfumed floral nose ( never thought I would say that about a Dunn), exquisite balance, the fruit is slightly sweet, the tannins are fully integrated and refined, with just the right amount of acid in the finish. I would never guess mountain fruit or let alone Dunn if tasted blind. Can’t wait to try it again in a couple of years. — 8 years ago

@Mike Davila -Great Vintage for Napa! Dunn normally takes bottle age to show it’s stuff with mellowed tannins. Kudos on waiting! Cheers 🍇🍷👍🏻👏🏻

Wonderful tar, meat, fruit, flowers. Two minute finish. Moves into that emotional realm where my notes no longer sound like tastes. Suffice to say lots of smile and memories — 9 years ago

Yes. So tasty but better than that, it reminds me of the steak dinner when I tried these in late vintages for the first time.... — 9 years ago

Really not much to say here except holy crap this is good. Leather, bit of game, dark almost stewed fruits, cranberry. The tannins are pure silk — 10 years ago

Belle Glos

Meiomi Pinot Noir 2012

Exceptionally wonderful to drink. Went perfect with the dry aged Liberty farms duck breast at Solage in Calistoga. A very fruity smelling drink that blends the best of coastal Pinot grapes. I would want a faucet installed in my house with this stuff coming out of it when I'm thirsty. — 10 years ago

Saint-Estèphe Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1961

53 years in waiting for this group... What can I say. Started off much younger than the label would say.. Like the old grand dame of St Estephe.. Nice fruit, wonderful nose, and a pleasant finish to round out a great bottle of wine from a era gone by. Shared with friends like it should be. Looking forward to 2015 to do it all again. — 11 years ago

Unfiltered Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel 2017

Always fun to try them when they’re fresh. The 2017 Zinfandel is bursting with capricious blue, black and red fruits with baking spices and a kiss of vanilla. In fact, this smells a bit like a fresh sleeve of blueberry fig newtons. Try it and tell me I’m wrong. As usual, these will be more interesting after a few years in the cellar. — 7 years ago

Wow.. Shocking how good these wines can be when they are on. Wonderful nose of dark fruit, old glove leather and graphite. This was still kicking after 3hrs and shows how strong the vintage was to keep going so strong after 50+ years. — 8 years ago

Silver Oak

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2001

When I started to get into wine, I loved Silver Oak. Haven't bought it for years but I still have some older bottles remaining in my cellar. They haven't impressed me for years now....but I'll pull one from my stash every now and then, and sadly nowhere as good as what I thought 15+ yrs ago when I started getting into wine. — 9 years ago

Agree. Susan...it happens a lot. You start drinking and buying SO. Then, you get further and deeper into wine realizing it's just not as good as we first perceived.

Give recent vintages time! Palates can change but remember the evolution of a wine is never static or linear. And that is half the fun!

Caymus Vineyards

Special Selection Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

The reason I fell in love with wine, popped my cherry or grape I should say. I was 19 and took this from my fathers stash, definitely got in trouble but it was worth it! — 9 years ago

Château de Beaucastel

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend

This wine needed about 3 hours to release. Initially tight with uncomfortable medicinal nose which then totally dissipated. Drinking now next day and you get the age of fully integrated but not fading tannins. Nose has a delightful dark fruit and smokiness. Great fit of nose and taste, meaning - when tastes after smelling the experience is consistent and not jolting. I think the color purple in a subdued way. Very nice. Memo to self: decant and watch for sediment, and enjoy three hours later. — 10 years ago

This is a solid wine...the kind I would want to always have on hand for when friends come over and we are looking for a casual yet delicious selection. Nice leather, spice, black soil, and dark fruits on the nose. On the palate there is blackberry cobbler, blackberry jam, plums, and baking spices. — 9 years ago

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC)

La Tâche Pinot Noir 1992

This was the groups WOTN against some pretty stiff competition. 59 Leroy GE, 82 LMHB, 82 Pichon Lalande & 80 La Mouline.
This is a very underrated vintage for LaTache as it is still showing tight and firm when 1st opened but really starts opening up after 30 min of air. Very aromatic and complex with red fruits, Asian spice, dried rose petal, game bird displaying power with elegance and finesse. Always a treat to drink a fully mature LaTache that is just reaching its peak drinking window.
