One of my favorite dinners was on the menu here at Chez Skip - cassoulet! And my knowledge of wine pairing is as sophisticated as a toddler eating spaghetti, I said to myself - hey I am eating French food and I like this French wine, so hey why not? And that was that. But as wine can be, it evoked its memory of when I had it first. I remember sitting out in the patio and being impressed with it. I thought to myself I could really enjoy French wines, but as history has shown, that was clearly a short lived notion.
Knowing it had been some time, I had an odd feeling, so I checked my Delectable history. Indeed, this was the very first wine I had rated!
So, to my friends, do you remember your first wine on here? Was it anything memorable? @philip Angino @Martin A. French night tonight.
Excellent second label from Angelus, from the 05 breakout vintage.
Lovely notes of jam compote, cinnamon and barrel toast. On the palette, notes of sweet tobacco, black raspberries and soy sauce. Outstanding texture with ripe tannins. For a second wine, we were blown away. Good luck trying to locate this on the open market.

Sipping Fine Wine
Located in Salem, OR; Founded May 1988 by Mark Vlossak & 8 investors, producing only 396 cases in 1st year, gradually increasing capacity to 6800 cases in 2004. Big aromas of ripe berry fruit with layers of complex spices. Blackberry & Raspberry flavors with exotic spice and herbal tea notes, great mouthfeel. Round full tannins, good acidity balance, lingering intense ending. Very Nice! — 8 years ago
