A new Rioja for me I grabbed in Spain from @gabymeetswine @vilaviniteca @ €105 & whilst nice I think it’s overpriced as you get just as good quality in many £40-£50 Rioja but that said it’s nice 😉 & quite unusually earthy & mineral laden 😁 leave 5 years 👍

🍇 Mazuela, Graciano & Tempranillo
🍷 Deep dark ruby
👃 Soggy earth, gravel, minerals & pencil lead through muted dark cherry w/ a light smokey soaked oak tone, red currant, balsamic & herbs then the oak really pushed through on steroids after a couple of hours
👄 Med body of red & dark cherry in balsamic w/ cocoa & minerals galore w/ a touch of blackberry
🎯 Med+ dry tannic red & dark cherry/berry cocoa mineral earthy linger w/ an okay follow through

Still Champagne, Pinot Noir... light, earthy, and delicious. Pinot Noir looking for a turkey day meal! — 9 years ago
This is a classic Montepulciano.. Plenty of fruit... Tannins and a hot mose...Needs to be open at least an hour before getting any light licorice and hints of dark cherry. Even so, not as complex or deep as the '05 Fanetti. Looking forward to another 3-4 years to try it again — 11 years ago

Olivier Riviere La Bastia 2019, one of Riojas young guns and a big part of the postmodern revolution of the region. Le Bastid is a 90% Viura, 10% Garnacha Blanca, fermented and matured in 500 liter French oak barrels.
With resemblance to a good Burgundy the wine opens up with ripe white stonefruit (plum juice, white peaches) and a lemongrass herbiness. Followed by a whiff of toast and nuts that lies over a stoney minerality. Good energy on the palate with a fresh acidity and savoury qualities on the mid palate that brings dimension and complexity through the finish.
Paired with an improvised salmon and shrimp casserole in a mushroom infused velouté topped with fried parsley and sourdough croutons.
Serve it at 10-12 degree in a burgundy glass

Caramel on the mose, black fruit, short finish, which was ok. Paired with charcouterie platter. The salami and mortadella killed the wine, but the prosciutto and foie gras were perfect. — 9 years ago

Cool climate Nebbiolo with the balance of great volnay. Mose of orange peel and spice. Palate is sweet Nebbiolo fruit with haunting internal aromatics. Lingering sweet fruit finish. I guess fifty years of experience making wine in the same terroir do matter for something. A wine that is a unique expression of Nebbiolo. Bobby got from Fass selections. — 8 years ago
