Reluctant

Quilceda Creek

CVR Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2011

Impressive. Was reluctant to take on a 2011, but it was rock solid. Reminded me of mid-2000s Pine Ridge Rutherford. — 11 years ago

Vérité

Le Désir Sonoma County Cabernet Franc Blend 2007

So closed. I should of decanted this 2 days ago. Very reluctant to open. Classy. Hidden perfume Find tannins despite the age. Like a 2010 Bordeaux. — 11 years ago

Giuseppe Quintarelli

Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Corvina Blend 2004

Absolutely did not expect to taste this but was totally blown away. The 2000 seemed rather closed the night I had it, but this younger 2004 really showed its stuff. Medicinal earthy aromas mixed with sweet cherry tones and smokey complex notes just continued to evolve on the palate. I was very reluctant to finish my portion and was so happy when I managed to get another taste! — 12 years ago

Spottswoode

Family Estate Grown St. Helena Cabernet Sauvignon 1999

Underwhelming for one of my favorite producers. Tannins dominate. Fruit is reluctant right now. Maybe in a dumb phase? — 11 years ago

Bummer. They're usually stunning!

Qupé

Central Coast Syrah 2011

Reluctant aromas. Chewy palate silky finish builds up steam in the finish with some sweet black currant pastilles and Violet tones. — 11 years ago

Demetria

North Slope Red Blend 2012

Once this beauty's reluctant armpits open up after a night of saying 'I'm sure', it matures like Betty White. Black cherries, currant, cloves, and some silkiness that slides it down the gullet lightly. Not Demetria's best wine I've ever had but definitely worth a gander. — 11 years ago

Joseph Phelps Vineyards

Insignia Estate Grown Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2002

Wow! My past experience with the '02 was a tight, tannic, larval, reluctant superstar. It has spread its wings wide and full! Absolute masterpiece. Everything in unison. Lush, velvet, cocoa, forest floor goodness! — 11 years ago

Trefethen Family Vineyards

Oak Knoll District Dry Riesling 2010

Riesling's have a reputation for being sweet. So I was a bid reluctant when my sister asked me to try this white. Of course, I have enjoyed Trefethen wines for over 20 years (it was one of my mother's favorite vineyards). While the palate is not as complex as a red, this crisp, light glass is refreshing on a warm day. And it does not break the bank at under $20; however, it may be difficult to find. They may only sell it direct. Cheers! — 13 years ago

Thomas Hughes - since you and I split the case in December, I have since bought a few more! I am glad you finally tried! It is called a 'dry' Riesling for a reason (note the sweet scale on the back). But I will agree it is a nice and refreshing wine , especially with the Texas hot summers!!! You honestly can't go wrong with any Trefethen wine, which is why I am a wine club member.

In honor of Mother's Day, tomorrow I will have to open their cab. I know the 1978 cab was Mom's favorite, but I don't have any of them that far back!
