Touching perfection here — 7 years ago
Funky introduction with subtle tannins. After 2-3 hours of opening, bitter vanilla with nice end tannins and fresh acidity. Nice savoriness. — 7 years ago
This is gorgeous. The cork disintegrated, and the bottom was black as tar. The nose is fruit and earth in that order, which was surprising. Decanted 30 minutes, which wasn't enough time for the vinegar notes to dissipate. Light color, which is slightly incongruous given the still pronounced fruits and tannins. Leather, cigar box, blackberries, oak on the finish. I was initially worried that we might have waited too long, but by the end of the bottle, I'm convinced there was no rush. This is exactly what a mature Pauillac should be. — 7 years ago
Houlihan ' s on a half price wine night and Stags Leap, can't be beat. This an awesome wine and drinking a bottle for less than I can buy in the wine center is a delightful way to end a day. Try it. — 8 years ago

Deep burgundy purple, smell of cassis, dark fruit, vanilla wood and plum, medium to dull body, smooth tannin with good acidity at the end, balanced and refined with a medium to long finish. — 10 years ago
On the nose, posh leather and ripe black fruits stand out. On the mouth, it is sweet and rounded. Good finish. The wine has evolved and it's easy to drink but it still has many years ahead of it. It got better towards the end and managed to hold the drinkers' interest throughout the meal. — 7 years ago
Very big fruit. Very smooth finish. Smoky front Good spice. — 7 years ago
Perfect place, after a 2 hour plus decant. Quite expressive dark fruit nose, excellent mouth feel, deep fruit, good acid, and still quite a bit of acid at the end. Excellent with beef Wellington. — 7 years ago
What a finish. So much strength at the end with a flavorful end. Super fun to try. — 8 years ago

Lovely noted of sweet strawberry jam and white pepper. The palate is a fantastic smoky beef jerky with floral perfume notes at the end — 9 years ago
4th red of the trip and this one takes the cake. So smooth with a lingering finish that is slightly sharp but full of oak and smoke. Really nice. — 9 years ago
In 2010, Wine Spectator crowned James Berry's "Saxum" their Wine of the Year. The $75 bottle now is sold for $300 or more at auctions. However James Berry also sells his grapes to other wineries. Every year Villa Creek creates a James Berry Vineyard "High Road", but for the 2007 vintage they keep a selection in oak barrels for an extra 2 years. The result is the High Road "End of the Road". The aging and limited release brings a bottle to $100 (for non club members), but I now consider this a wine in my top 10 favorites. Think full bodied California Cabernet fruit blast meets elegant balanced French red. The sip glides over your tongue and waltzes with your taste buds. Caution, this bottle packs a subtle punch with 17% alcohol ... So share or call a cab! Wine Spectator rates it a 93. I would go higher! Cheers! — 11 years ago
What a great cab; structured yet fruity; minimum tanins in the back end; loved it — 6 years ago
Back upstate and starting with a quick split and caviar to get things back on track. The softest bubbles, brioche, yeasty, toasted almonds. Yum. Great balance to the brine. Christmas Carols have switched to George Michael. Can this year please end already?!?!? — 7 years ago
Fruit flavors on the nose, but no oak. Flavors of sweet tobacco and cherry seem to be most pronounced. There is also a juicy blackberry flavor paired with black current. The flavors all work together well without overpowering another. The wine is extremely well balanced leading to a very smooth feel. The tannins are mellow and there is a small little bite on the end. Overall this is an excellent wine from an excellent winemaker and one not to miss. For drinkers looking to try a more expensive bottle but worry it's not with it, this is a great choice to calm your fears. Just make sure to properly decant. — 8 years ago
