Low alcohol, peppery, funky, fruit punch. Wicked good with a proper chill. — 7 years ago
Frank and Claire approved. Back to reality, but first, there is more fun to be had. — 8 years ago
Full fruit punch up front, then fades quickly away. I've seen people compare this to northern rhone, but it lacks that earthy complexity. One trick pony, but the trick is dam good. — 8 years ago
All time favorite! Very smooth and packs a punch! — 9 years ago
Blackberry, dark chocolate, earth, and rounded out oak take over the nose. On the palette heavy blueberry, light lavender, enduring tannin. Not to mention an awesome little punch in the mouth California Syrahs produce. — 9 years ago
Really takes the edge off an interesting day. First sip, powerful punch. Another Randy Young special — 9 years ago
Fruit punch! Light and soft. Like a mouthful of Swedish Berries candy. Incredibly thirst quenching. — 10 years ago
The $50 mystery case train rolls on. Best Hundy we ever spent on wine. I paid <$5 for this wine and can’t find it online for less than $52. Committed to not looking these wines up before popping the cork. Merlot dominant, whole cluster in Demi’s that are turned every 4 hours for 6 months in lieu of punch downs or pump overs. Good stuff. — 6 years ago
Love love love. This is a wonderful, easy drinking, no food necessary wine. Super juicy, like fruit punch. Subtle funk to it. Not tannic, medium acid. Great price point. — 7 years ago
2016 - Color - light garnet --- Nose - orange peel, strawberry, lemon blossom, cherry punch, bubble gum --- mid pallet- touch of noticeable RS, very cherry --- Finish - nice balance of tannins and acidity. Long cherry finish. — 7 years ago
Randy Dunn makes wine for your retirement and perhaps your grandkids. This 02 is just coming into it's elegance/groove. When you consider it's been in bottle for basically 12 years, it's still a pretty big wine. Tannins are resolving but still packs a palate punch. On the nose, it's a wild berry blend, baking spices and a mix of dry and fresh roses. The fruits start elegant transitioning to juicy & finishing with dry medium tannins. Blackberries, black cherries, black plum, raspberries with very ripe juicy strawberries painting the back palate. The mix of fruit is incredible. Baking spices of caramel & vanilla, just a touch of spice; allspice & light sage, black tea, dessert style dark minerals that finish with dry crushed rocks, graphite & eucalyptus. Followed by; raspberry cola and acidity that is just short of perfect. The finish pierces the mid palate with dark tannins. However, the mixed berry fruit finishes long, juicy to dry & with sheer beautiful elegance. The finish lasts & lasts. It's simply a guilty pleasure. I have two more bottles. I'll have one in 7 more years and the last in 15 years. Love to note the changes! That's the really enjoyable part of cellaring wine. — 8 years ago
Like a punch in the face, but in a kinky sex kind of way. — 8 years ago
Still packing a punch for this old guy. Tannins still alive and kicking. Tamari and barbecue spice. #oldaustralia #bestdressedsomm — 8 years ago
60% Grenache 40% Syrah
Interesting. Real punch — 9 years ago
2010 Cellar Hand 'Punch Down' Red of Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet from Okanagan, BC, Canada. Dark and spicy, black cherry, plum, forest floor and black pepper. Lively finish. Nice jug. #canada #okanagan #sommelier #restaurant #nomnom #food #wine — 10 years ago
I'm so impressed by the complexity in this for such a young wine. How often do you hear CA syrahs being compared to N. Rhone? Way too much right? Well, how many CA syrahs out there are cold climate, coming in at 12.0%, and bringing the funk? This starts interesting with a soft fruit nod and then ends with an earthy funk punch. Could potentially be a dead ringer for a fine St. Joseph with another 7-8 years. — 7 years ago
Too too young. Packs a "fruit punch" — 7 years ago
Open the cigar box and breathe it in. This has a hint of licorice and packs a powerful punch. Loved it 15 years after purchase — 7 years ago
Full bodied, smooth balanced, big punch of fruit from Old school grapes. Deep purple inc colour — 8 years ago
Has punch, not really a jab, more like an uppercut, medium rare finish, the rope is red and smooth but not cotton smooth but like unwashed and unused cotton smooth like I've used it a lot and I need to wash it , the feeling tastes like endless opportunities like star gazing in New York with mixed feelings because you can't see the stars and your red wine is actually in a white wine glass — 8 years ago
This is a great every day wine for those that like a bold fruit flavor dry wine. Lots of spice and black fruit aroma with a punch of jammy blueberry and pepper with good tannins and a smooth vanilla finish. — 8 years ago
Strong cherry flavor, packs a bit of a punch. Quite enjoyable. — 9 years ago
Brett and barnyard aromas punch you in the nose upon first whiff, grape juice underbelly becomes apparent with a second whiff. Increased barrel aging and the inclusion of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon imparts a touch more complexity, acidity, and astringency than its baby brother Cabernet Franc/Merlot blend "Justification". — 9 years ago
My favorite wine! The best! #1 This wine has so many layers upon layers of goodness to unravel. It's everything you ever wanted and more especially if you are like me who started out thinking bigger is better. My first and early Cab > Zinfandel> Barolo>big Spanish exploration, which I only appreciated years after diving into Pinot Noir, helps me truly enjoy this wine. A big punch in the face of amazing rich aromas and layers of flavors that seem to keep changing with every sip (savor every drop) of this wine. But the key is the balance! This wine is made so well and is such a complete package. After drinking it the first time I remember saying to myself "this is why I drink wine". It was like I found the one I had been waiting for. I am now satisfied and complete. Keep all the #boregundy you want, give me La Chapelle! — 10 years ago
