Cheapie from a good maker & a great region - went very well with eye fillet and chips at the Kingscliff Beach Hotel — 9 years ago
Went and picked up my Bedrock shipment yesterday and I was floored by all the wines. This was only one of the wines but the quality in all of them were amazing! Gibson ranch grenache was exquisite and floral, hudson Syrah was powerful and meaty, griffins lair was a perfect example if Cali meets cote rotie. I can preach enough about this winery, Morgans wines take up the largest part of my cellar! — 10 years ago
so good! Easy drinkijg. — 7 years ago
Barnard's lair 2017 — 7 years ago
This is massive. Rolando Pinot from Griffins Lair drinks like classic Bordeaux almost. — 7 years ago
Solid but very simple and straightforward. — 7 years ago
Imagine you meet Yeti on the trail and he invites you for a drink to his lair. — 8 years ago
A bit unresolved. Good but not great for the price. — 9 years ago
I hate it when people use Burgundian to describe New World wine. But damn if this isn't the most Burgundian Pinot I've ever had from California. Dominated by mineral and earth and structure, with beautiful, quiet, well delineated fruit. I'm down with @Pax Mahle's Syrah, and he's slowly convincing me that he knows something about Pinot, too. — 9 years ago
Classy smoky savory Syrah — 9 years ago
A Pinot closer to a Syrah. Smoky and interesting. Has actually matured nicely over the past year. — 10 years ago
Crisp white stoned fruit with a dry, bitting finish. — 11 years ago
Barnard's Lair — 7 years ago
After we had the arbor roberts' griffi's lair, the friendly somm at Bowery meat co recommended this red. Always great to have wine from Justin Smith's vineyard and this is made by someone who worked with him at Saxum. Rich, dense, plush, and the complexity and acidity I associate with this vineyard. — 7 years ago
One of the single vineyard offerings from Pax Mahl's winery (before he and Joe Donlan parted ways), this syrah has evolved nicely over the past decade. Doesn't possess the depth of Griffin's Lair nor the intensity of Obsidian, but is still a nice example of the type of syrah one finds in the warmer parts of Russian River. Probably still has a few years of life left, but I suspect it's starting on its decline so I'd recommend drinking this sooner rather than later. — 7 years ago
Tasted next to the Griffins Lair. An elegant counterpoint. More lavender, juniper spice, and earth. Some resemblance to Cote Rotie. Spectacular. — 8 years ago
Tastes of yellow seed grass with hints of plastic. Fantastic! The flavour is beyond delectable. It just tickles my fancy like no other. It swims down your throat like a yellowfin tuna swimming downstream the St. Lawrence River. Sometimes i dream of this wine while watching the stars on my private island. — 9 years ago
Lush indulgence. Sun drenched fruit, lovely. Good value. Soul sold. Sample — 9 years ago
Beautiful sparkling Vouvray recommended by Jon Rimmerman at the yearly Garagiste "Lair." — 9 years ago
A little tannic at first opening of this magnum. From Griffin's Lair Vineyard. Very delicious. — 10 years ago
Best in Show at Vancouver Magazine's International Wine Competition. I tasted this wine at their gala Big Night event, paired with Dungeness crab in dashi custard and yuzu. Heavenly! — 11 years ago

Talk about sexy! And the wine was great as well. My first post after a bit of a hiatus from Delectable. In San Diego for a meeting and was able to sneak away for a few sips. Thanks so much to @Bill Bender for generously making time to host me at his lair, perched high above the city looking down on the harbor, for great friendship, conversation, and of course, killer juice. The initial notes of stewed plums and spice blew off after a bit of time in the decanter, revealing layers of deep, rich voluptuous fruit and earthy minerals. Almost surprisingly youthful and powerful at 15, this will continue to evolve for a long time. One of my favorite Burgs. Thanks again, Bill!!! — 7 years ago
