It's a savory wine, the way I like it and the way Randall Grahm usually makes it. Dark and mysterious, it smells of meat and olives and earth, with a little black fruit thrown in just to make it palatable for everybody else. There is, however, a “cleanliness” to it that is often obscured by oak. It's just the same way on the palate, with flavors mimicking the aromas. The finish lingers comfortably and provides plenty of anticipation for the next sip. Meditate on a piece of dark chocolate while sipping this. — 8 years ago
Amazing intensity but I do not prefer the amount of oak that obscured charm — 9 years ago
Deep purple ruby. Rich dark fruit with hint of chocolate, spicy cinnamon. Obscured steel smell. On palate, full of black currant. Medium acid and tannin give well balance. Medium long bitter finish. Hot mouthfeel.
Surprisingly, this cab & Merlot blend with NZ brand, Australia vineyard and women winemaker.
Young, worth trying. — 10 years ago
White burgundy at a crazy value. Big oakiness with salinity slightly obscured. Big acidity in finish. — 11 years ago
Very youthful. A touch of Brett. Awesome cedar and tobacco nose with tons of plum fruit, slightly obscured by some horse and band aid. This was about the best showing you could expect from a slightly imperfect bottle. — 7 years ago
There is almost an unmistakable sunscreen aftertaste that just obscured everything and I didn't even go to the beach today will try tomorrow... — 9 years ago
Deep violet glass with translucent violet rim. Nose slightly obscured by 15% alcohol but still rich with bing cherry, blackberry, tobacco, cedar, vanilla and black pepper. On the palate, medium full body adds oak, smoke and a little dark chocolate to the berries and spice. Pronounced young tannins lead to a rather dry medium length finish with leather and black pepper. Good with food or sips like a dry Shiraz/cab. Sublime value at $12.99 USD. — 10 years ago
The freshness and mineral components are kind of obscured by some new oak which manifests itself in a sort of creamy cocoa/chocolate aroma, which isn't the best compliment to what Valtellina is, IMO, but it's still a really good wine. Powerful mountain herb bouquet, great tension. Nebb!! — 11 years ago
Dry black fruit, full body, strong tannins. Good cherry flavor with a decent, obscured complexity. Amazing value at $20 a bottle. — 7 years ago
Ripe currant fruit with a touch of vanilla and brown sugar, intense and ripe, but with enough savoriness to stay drinkable. Loaded with ripe tannin that is obscured by the fruit. Not my usual style at all, it is a guilty pleasure. — 7 years ago
Always so reliable. It does not even matter that 13 is a rough vintage. Nose shows the vintage but beyond that is minerals galore. A bit of a custardy note that I find blows off after a bit. Palate is lush, rich and concentrated with great purity. Still has adequate acidity and a long finish. The minerals will come with air. Obscured by froot now. — 9 years ago
Deep, dark ruby
Barnyard/Earthy
Bit of H2S? Meaty.
Balanced mouthfeel, tannin has definitely been obscured by Brett. Super round, soft. Cuddly. — 9 years ago
Deep purple glass with violet rim. Medium nose obscured by high alcohol 15.5% with blackberry, blueberry, tobacco, smoke, cola, vanilla and mint. On palate, well balanced tobacco, black pepper, chocolate and smoke. Young medium tannins leads to a long finish of dark chocolate, coffee and mint/pepper. At $24.99 not cheap but fair, Better in 2 years? High alcohol may downgrade experience for some. — 10 years ago

Chenin from high altitude vineyards on calcareous soils in Catalunya. Pours a hazy copper, with vivid energy apparent from the nose. Structured and mineral, with clear varietal definition, complimented, not obscured by microbial character, all with baffling stamina after 7+ years of bottle age. — 7 years ago
