Single Vineyard Bonarda 2011

The guy at the Summehill LCBO (aka The Happiest Place on Earth, amirite?) knew off the top of his head that they don't have any Tannat in stock, and that was at once impressive and devastating, but then he was all, "have you ever tried Bonarda?" and proceeded to give a brief history of the grape, followed by tasting notes and an overview of current producers ("If you visit Brazil, this is what you'll be drinking"), and I was, like, "Okay fine—just ask for my hand in marriage already."

Anyway, the dude was totally right. Not complex, but big on flavour. I'm getting a little bit of lavender on the nose and some charcoal on the finish. Lots of warm climate juiciness, which made for a surprisingly good pairing with cream of broccoli/cheddar soup and oat bread.

A vivacious oat Chardonnay that is full of tropical fruit including coconut and a touch of banana… For those moments when you want something big with that oaky-vanillin finish... Great value for local Wildemeadow fruit at under $20 — 11 years ago

Brasserie Uberach

La Klintz Blonde Bio

Find most French beer (with the exception of some Northern Trappist style ones) deeply underwhelming so was very pleasantly surprised to drink this Alsace bottle conditioned ale. Great depth, orange and oat complexity. Will explore further — 11 years ago

Domaine du Closel-Château des Vaults

La Jalousie Savennières Chenin Blanc 2013

Elegant, sexy and complete. Silky pear, honeydew, oat, flowers, honeycomb, brown spice, and rocky mineral notes. With medium-full weight and crisp gritty acidity the wine dances across the palate giving pleasure and promising so much for those patient enough to give this time to develop in bottle. Drink now with good air or hold for 5-7 years. 2013 — 11 years ago

Salty air, a smidge of peat, a touch of smoke, and slighty sweet finish. Elegant. An Oat cake and Lockerbie Cheddar would be great, but the lemon Girl Scout cookies will have to do. Thanks Ailee! — 11 years ago

Dom Pérignon

Brut Champagne Blend 1976

Great! But the pop if the cork left me worried at first taste it had a heavy taste of raisin, and very long aftertaste but twenty minutes of just sitting the bottle the wine spread out and bloomed into a real pleasure with a nice raisin and oat taste. Loved it. — 13 years ago
