Terrific offering from Russell From. His wines are great, but I think they need a couple of years to settle down. And this one has. Has great primary fruit aromas of boisenberries, black raspberries, and "grapes"! Great acidity with gives it persistence through the mid-palate, this wine has a nicely balanced finish. Not sure this has a lot of of years ahead of it, but there's no point waiting! — 9 years ago
Tonight's bottle hails from Riverbench winery. This one's a Pinot Noir, a Pommard Clone Pinot Noir to be exact. The Pinot Noir grape hails from the great family of Pinot varietals, aka the Gris, the Blanc, the Noir, etc, The Pommard clone has found its way into California vineyards via cuttings from Pinot Noir from the Château de Pommard in France circa the 1940s. The original being the "Clone 4", and then giving birth to a daughter, the "Clone 5". The Pommard Clone 5 has slowly been making a name for itself all along the west coast, from Oregon to Southern California. It tends to deliver a meaty/gamey flavor with pure dark fruit flavors. This vintage shows a wonderful restraint and great balanced structure to deliver a wonderfully light red wine, perfect for any occasion. ~$46 | #riverbench #pinotnoir #pommard
On the eyes: Bright, clear cranberry red, med- stain, med tears, no gas/floc.
On the nose: Earthy, herbaceous, blood orange, and bruléed strawberry. Med alcohol.
On the tongue: Med acid, med tannin, med alcohol, med round body with great balance. Pleasantly tart, slightly floral with bright cranberry and blueberry, and dusty old road that yields to a memory of smoky oak. This one is drinking young and could probably do with another few years in the bottle, but I just couldn't resist a Riverbench Pinot. — 9 years ago
The name says it all. No thought process needed. Easy to drink and no harshness...live. — 9 years ago
No shit sold out. We spit 300+ wines. This was not one of them and represents some of the best whites in the new world. Orange honey marmalade but honestly name it and it's in there. I love this wine. — 10 years ago
Like no Chenin Blanc I have ever tasted this is searing in its mineral intensity. Definitely not for the faint of heart. It think Pineau de Loire is an apt name cause I picked up a pine pitch flavor. Would be amazing with anything in a shell. But maybe also as a foil to rich pork or something really creamy. Check it out folks. — 10 years ago
OK c'mon..who doesn't love a good name to start out with? After drinking this very good Cali style Pinot I'd move to Pillow Road for more than just the cool name. Sometimes the California Pinot style is too big for me and overwhelms in a more Cab way than a traditional Burgundian/funky earth tone/vegetable way. This one is between the styles and not too dense (my usual complaint) and has great cherry and light leather without the Big Fruit that tends to get in the way of complexity. So bottom line; big but not to big and enough Euro notes to satisfy the taste for Willamette style. — 10 years ago

No producer name on the label? I have never seen a wine with no producer on the label — 11 years ago
Very fitting of its name. Voluptuous perfect with duck or steak with mushrooms and truffle jus — 12 years ago
Wow. What a treat this was. This is a very rare and special gewurztraminer made by Manfred for his good friend @Roman Sukley with a personally inscribed note from Manfred for Roman to share it with friends and family.
This wine is the nectar of the gods. Amazing — 9 years ago
Alright guys. Not expensive. No known name. This proves to me what you spend is not whether a wine is good. Delicious. Rich dark berries. Some vanilla. Buy it. Enjoy. The ratings are based on snob appeal. Take a blind taste test. Then we'll talk. Shalom. — 9 years ago
The go-to fall red. Restrained fruit, purplish in the glass, tons of acidity, no tannin to speak of. — 10 years ago
Finally got over my aversion toward the name "Whispering Angel" and tried this rosé. It's pretty good! Nice pale salmon color, light and crisp fruity taste--delicate and not overpowering. No sticky mouthfeel like some other rosés. Great for a hot summer day. — 10 years ago
2011. Guessed marlborough pinot. No earthiness detected. Light body. Juicy red fruit but not overwhelming. Nose of mints like a mild Gevrey chambertin. Drink. — 10 years ago
Outstanding intensity, balance and verve. Concentrated pineapple fruit with clean mineral notes. No time on skins, whole cluster pressed. — 10 years ago

Beautiful " no name" from Penner Ash drinking wonderfully!!! — 9 years ago
Exceptional wine with true flavors delivered from the slopes and a cool climate with no chemicals. Well done a great Pinot that has bounce. — 9 years ago
Y. U. M. Just drinkin' after work wine. Smooth spicy just a little complexity, maybe chocolate. Nice job blending, all y'all! — 9 years ago
Named after the horse that plows the field, "Titouan" is organic and no sulfur. On the nose, cocoa, spice, Bing cherry with great acid and super juicy and too many fruits to name! Tortona is where we are! Medium body and fills out over time. — 9 years ago
Grown two miles down the road and 12.9% abv. Very curious. Has a little bit of the drinkability of a Beaujolais, but the dark tannin structure of Napa cabernet. Spicy black pepper, but at this point, no roasted meat character. A little thin but solid tannin, fruit, and acidity. Will love to retry in a few years. — 9 years ago
2009. Pessac Leognan style...wow, this does not smell like Gamay! Petrol, smoke, cab-like notes of black current, smoke, graphite. This is awesome!! Over 50 year old vines. Very low yields of 18hl/hectare. Whole cluster but no carbonic maceration. Stainless and neutral barrel aging. Fabien Duperray, a name to watch out for! — 10 years ago
Amazing Value and no longer produced under the Le Thil name. — 10 years ago
Unconventionally beautiful or as the French say pretty-ugly, this was a breath of fresh air to my palate. Neutral oak, no malo, the complexity and breadth of flavor and aroma all coming from the care taken in the winery to coax the maximum impact from the fruit. — 10 years ago
SCEA La Tache is the name of the estate. No sulfur. Deep classic natural Syrah nose. Amazing. Great purity. 100% whole cluster. One month fermentation. Stunning. 1 gram of sulfur at the end. — 11 years ago
Flavorful, acidic, & no oak! — 12 years ago
Love this stuff...fresh burst of acidity with the. Aromatics of pear, peach and honey.... Graham crackers... No I haven't gone crackers . This Godello is growing at 600 to 650 meters on really steep slopes, eastern side. Rocky quartz soils with loads of red clay a spectacular place that takes quite a while to get to by way of a windy steep narrow road. It really makes you appreciate it — 12 years ago

These Villa Creek wines have continued to grow on me over the years. This was no exception. Lots of lip smacking fruit but executed in a style that sits very nicely with my palate. — 7 years ago
