Got into a northern Rhone last night. Dark purple. Youthful. Decanted for 2 hours to dissipate some of the heat from the alcohol. It opened up much better than the last bottle. It has a nice balance of peppery spice and blueberry/bramble. It also had some mint and a savoury hoisin side to it, although it notably lacked any hint of liquorice. I’m okay with that as that really isn’t my draw. It has a very well defined structure but tannins are not grippy; just pleasantly present. Medium plus acidity, medium alcohol, medium tannin. A perfect accompaniment to our night by the fire. Could easily last and suggest to most palates that they wait another 5-10+. Probably best with food. — 6 years ago
Low yields in Northern Rhône 2013, but the quality of the fruit is prevalent here. Structured and well-integrated fine grained tannins at the five year mark. The nose explodes out of the glass with finesse and doused complexities. Definitive Syrah nuances of black raspberries, black plums, black olives, fresh cut violets, cracked black pepper, Indian spices, grilled and smoked meats, and stone dust. Light weight but packs a continuous release of flavors. Nose and palate changes from fruit to floral to spicy to meaty. As you move to different areas and rooms the wine changes. The more air it gets, the more meat starts hanging out. Complex indeed for a $20 bottle. Great showing. — 7 years ago

Been sick for a week, not all the way better, but today is Valentine’s Day and we’re having wine with dinner. Aromatics are alluring with high toned red fruit & a black tea note. The palate shows beautifully ripe red fruit leading to darker spicier notes and a textural tannic grip. Lots to unpack over the years with this as these 16’s will only get better with time. Not quite as good as Prieure Roch's gamay but still quite fun — 7 years ago

Nice flinty reductive properties that envelops into a rich minerality. Not lacking in fruit with some cantaloupe and lemon rind. Overall a great expression of Côte d'Or as a white wine with the complexity and familiar body of a red. — 8 years ago
Stinky, reductive, needs lots of air & time to breath. Funky cab franc which many won't like. — 9 years ago
Just plain drinkable with a lot of red fruit, pretty CF aromatics and just a touch of funky-earthiness. — 11 years ago
