Pagani Ranch Sonoma Valley Zinfandel Blend 2007

30 min allowed for the wine to open... Ever so slight hint of prunes from ripe plums on the nose, juicy fresh grape flavors, mid palate of earth, cedar, & acid that causes cleansing salivation across the tongue... 2007 vintage firing on all cylinders, and at a high moment, from a producer of magical Zinfandels... it's the next morning, and I'm still craving more. — 7 years ago

Love everything about this rose. From the nose to the finish, it's incredibly balanced and vibrant. Red berries, peaches with cream, savory herbs and white rose petals kissed with morning dew. Rich and coating on the palate, the eager acidity drives through and coats everything in sight. — 8 years ago

Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru Chardonnay 2009

Nose of sweet Lilacs, Osmanthus and morning dew that drew repeated nosing as it was really unique and haunting. Well structured with excellent acidity. Think only 4 producers making total of 4 barrels of this property! — 8 years ago

Adelsheim

Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2011

Tonight I am going back to one of my favorite areas for Pinot Noir, the Willamette Valley. This is the first time trying the Adelsheim Winery though I have heard great things about them. On the nose we get strong fruit forward aromas of strawberry, cherry, raspberry and a moist morning dew soil. The red fruit continues through to the palate. The strawberry & raspberry continue though a bit on the light side. There is a smooth mouth feel with a nice acidity and minerality notes. The acidity helps in the length of this Pinot which I truly like. — 10 years ago

Right after writing this I remembered that I have had Adelsheim before. I had their 2012 Rose which blew my mind. So I just proves that Adelsheim has I going on. :-)

Marcarini

Brunate Barolo Nebbiolo 2007

Blackberry, minerals, Burgundian style with little to no oak, like morning dew. Light and bouncy, acidic in the mouth with a lingering finish. Solid Barolo, needs another few years as there is still some heat on the nose. — 8 years ago

L'Aventure

Optimus Paso Robles Syrah Blend 2013

How do you not love the wines of a crazy Frenchman who traveled the world to find best terrior to blend the varietals he wanted to grow, only to settle in Paso Robles. Here we have his masterful and unusual blend of syrah, cab and petit verdot. The nose is rustic, olives, leather, blackberry, tree bark, morning dew. The wine is light and silky, but rich and voluptuous, the syrah pepper sneaks up on you, lively acids that are just balanced by the fruity cab, and then you realize cab and syrah are fascinating together. And of course it all makes sense, Paso is one of the only wine growing regions in the world where you can actually grow both. Nice job, you crazy Frenchman, this wine is a win and I'm glad I'm in your club. — 8 years ago

Perhaps the most surprising and fantastic food/wine pairing of my life: 87 Joly CdS and a Niman Ranch bacon sandwich on potato bread with a spread of Mayo as thick as my head felt this morning after a dinner with a legend. The acid in this 1987 made German Riesling seem as alkaline as lye. It shook the bacon from the inside of my cheeks and concentrated its intensity on the middle of my palate. It made the bacon more bacon. It's 28 years old. Bad A :-) — 9 years ago
