Had at Zanzibar restaurant in Merimbula as one of their paired wines, absolutely loved it! — 9 years ago
2009. Dark cherry, hints of earth and tobacco. The nose is making me happy. More dark cherry and earth, tannins and acid in a perfect place. Another great one by Merrill. — 10 years ago
2007. Dark red fruit, leather, anise dominate the nose. Red fruit, spice, chewy, nice acidity. Could use a bit more depth but I love the house style that Merrill is known for. Great stuff. — 10 years ago
Had at Vue De Monde, Melbourne. Very nice wine. Would like to try again. Had this after the 2004 Geoff Merrill Henley, so stiff competition to follow up against. — 11 years ago
Really nice, heavy wine though at 14.5%. — 12 years ago
Has aged to perfection, super smooth yet a big bold style. Yum! — 8 years ago
Celebrating my father in law as he finished his battle with pancreatic cancer. Sometimes there is the right wine at the right place with the right people. Even let the almost adult children on the action. Great celebration. This wine was feminine and full of black/ blue fruit. Thank you Merrill for your passion You exceeded expectations and delivered. From magnum. — 9 years ago

The bottle did come from Acker, Merrill & Condit, so god knows what juice is really in there. Just kidding. Barton at its best! — 12 years ago
Pale cherry red with a pinkish tinge. A serious Rose style showing savoury raspberry flavours with a dry fine tannin finish. From older Grenache vines made by a very experienced wine maker and a style we should be drinking more of in an Aussie summer. Short term drinking. — 8 years ago
Still young at 14 years! complex, strong, yet balanced. — 9 years ago
Tonight's wine is a Pinot Noir from the Sonoma Coast. I picked this up a couple days ago and was excited to try it. I had heard a lot about Kutch wines over the last few months and wanted to know what all the hub bub was about. Jamie Kutch is the winemaker and his first vintage was a 2005 Pinot. Jamie used to be a stock trader from NYC on the NASDAQ working for Merrill Lynch. He traded in everything to move west bitten by the wine bug and to make Pinot Noir. He was mentored by Michael Browne of Kosta Browne fame and the rest is history.
The nose on this Pinot is very expressive of good fruit with notes of plum, cherry, raspberry, ,menthol, clove and a musty earthy forest floor.
The palate doesn't disappoint with a touch of sweetness, red cherry, black raspberry, plum, clove and a touch of oak.
Even though this is a California Pinot it is not the normal big Pinot with dark fruit. This has an earthy soil texture with medium + mouth watering acidity and medium smooth fine tannins. A nice Pinot Noir and I can understand why there is a lot of talk about this winery. — 9 years ago
