some #wine grumps declare that you should NEVER 🚫 pair red wine 🍷 with chocolate dessert, but I can attest that there were exactly zero scowls when we matched the smooth, plum-blueberry-cocoa '15 Syrah from local (Sta. Rita Hills) #Melville #Winery with the deeply flavorful chocolate gateau at #Blackbird restaurant in #SantaBarbara — 7 years ago
Impressive; ripe, manly. Marius, being you're my only follower: salut, how are you? — 8 years ago
A great offering from Adam Tolmach, this 2005 is drinking beautifully. A great balance between primary and secondary aromas, the nose comes across with layers of violet, spice, and boysenberry. The palate is medium-plus bodied and has the terrific acidity characteristic of Adam's wines. I always like to give his wines a few years in bottle to integrate: for this Melville Vineyard offering, 10 years was just about perfect! — 9 years ago
2011 Vintage. Had it at Birthday dinner. Loved it! — 10 years ago
Big ups to @Chad Melville and co. for this rich, silky, and irresistible expression of the best Sta Rita has to offer. — 10 years ago
Steely and grassy with both tangerine and tropical notes. Continues to be a compelling wine every time I try it. — 11 years ago
Tried a Sample and bought a bottle. In 1989, Melville Vineyards, was founded in Sonoma, where Ron Melville grew high quality, Chard, Merlot, and Cab Sauv. In 1996, Ron's desire to grow Pinot Noir brought Melville Vineyards to Lompoc's Sta. Rita Hills, in Santa Barbara County. Ruby with aromas of sweet red fruits and vivid spice. Flavors of raspberry and strawberry, currant like, adding cinnamon and leathery notes. Fine tannins, lingering ending with nice mouthfeel bringing back fruit and subtle spice. Nice! — 6 years ago
This Pinot Noir (the t in Pinot is silent) is delectable. A true shining star. The aromatic treat starts with strong notes of red, and screams 'drink the entire bottle buddy'. Succumbing to the temptation you will discover a blissful elegance as this masterpiece flows through your body. Invigorating your inner youth, enchanting your inner sommelier, and appeasing your inner drunkard with the 16.0% alcohol by volume. This reasonably priced bottle of happiness would truly be a delight on any occasion. Additionally the surgeon general declares consumption of such a magnificent beverage could be detrimental to the growth of a child, pregnant women be warned. — 9 years ago

Melville vineyard. Savory, Unami, mushroom, dried spices, thyme, dill, and dark fruit. M+ acid and M tannin. — 10 years ago
Delectable is identifying this incorrectly, it is the Block M 115 clone, which is quite different for the Santa Rita Hills Pinot. This is an amazing wine with a nose that is deep and complex, with cherries and cranberries and clover and a palate that is long and velvety. Best wine I've had out of the central coast. What a Thursday night! — 10 years ago
One of the best pintos I've had — 11 years ago
Avec Msr Brewer, Chad Melville et al. Excellent pondering and philosophizing. — 11 years ago
Shared with Elizabeth before her river rafting trip. Tropical gold. Medium gold color. Huge expansive aromas of white flowers - jasmine; flavors of white stone fruit - nectarines and peaches, mango and pineapple with soft oak hints. Starts off big and bold, lingers in the mid-palate flavors, before finishing long and lush. Compliments our dinner of mahi-mahi with a mango pineapple curry. This bottle is at its peak. Bravo!!! — 6 years ago
Delicious chard ripe citrus and a hint of oak — 7 years ago
This was really really really good. Wish I had held onto it a little longer. — 8 years ago
Wow. Absolutely terrific offering from Brewer-Clifton. At 11 years, this has an incredible nose of spiced rhubarb, dried strawberries, and a sagebrush undertone that adds terrific complexity. Has the classic spice one picks up from the Melville Verna's pinot, but is much more subdued and integrated into the wine, adding to its complexity. Wonderfully balanced, this wine probably has several more years of life left but is drinking beautifully right now. Probably the best Brewer-Clifton I've had. — 9 years ago
This is Santa Barbara Syrah. Power fruit. Bit too much for me. J loves it though. Great with grass fed bone in pork chops — 9 years ago
This is a funky and interesting wine. From recently witnessed reactions, you either like it or don't like it. I like it a lot! Bursting bouquet if flowers with honeysuckle notes and apricot hints. Almost an oily sensation in the mouth. Very interesting. Vintage 2010 — 10 years ago
Steve brewer of diatom and Melville this wine is 100% estate fruit. A big Pinot noir with a good amount of ripe fruit black rasperry and pretty floral rose petal notes. A bit hot with spicy and floral notes to the finish. 14.7% finish 40+ excellent — 12 years ago

A single clone pinot from Melville’s Clonal Series, this is surprisingly robust given its age. Terrific spice on the nose and palate, this has nice depth and a balanced finish. Probably has several more years of life left. Pretty impressive. — 6 years ago
