Sol Huarpe Single Vineyard Malbec 2011

Tasted with NY Strip steak. At first, it was very closed, but then it opened up in 5 minutes, under wishful duress. Purple with the electric pink rim, it made itself known with strength and a dry finish. Any gaucho would happy with this medium to heavy bodied wine... — 8 years ago

Oppenlander Vineyard Pinot Noir 2012

I don't know what's happening with Pinot Noir lately, but I am loving the rich and velvety mouthfeel of this wine. With a nose full of red currant and raisin, the acidity is nicely balanced to clear up the line between plum-fruit and young leather on the finish. Almost Zin-like, without being boastful or spicy, this wine fits the bill for a "big" red without being macho. Think "Bromance." lol — 9 years ago

Very well-done effort to make this wet stone bright superbly balanced wine. 2013 vintage tailor made for diver sea scallops with a lemon beurre blanc at El Gaucho. — 9 years ago

Bodega Alvear

Che Gaucho Malbec/Merlot Blend

My fav blend of all blends and the price just puts it over the top. Bold flavor of cherry and oak yet not too spiced. — 8 years ago

Finca Flichman

Dedicado Malbec Blend 1996

An amazingly smooth and quaffable red which the gaucho sommelier encouraged our table of c. 8 to drink. I have no doubt that the context of an imperial bottle aided maturity but top notch drinkability regardless — 9 years ago

Marqués de Murrieta

Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2005

Stellar. The nose reveals spicy, tangy grapes, blackberries, bramble, and big doses of pepper. The tingly, welcoming mouthfeel gives way to serious tobacco and tar terroir on the finish, invoking cigars and tapas in Barcelona. Vanilla and spicy cherry. Really macho and full-bodied. An epiphany. — 9 years ago

Domaine La Bastide

Les Genêts Vielles Vignes Vin de Pays d'Hauterive Syrah

2010. Poor man's Cornas. Intensely minerally/stony nose with a grilled beef note and bright blackberry fruit lurking underneath. Liquid stones and iodiney in the mouth, with a macho feel . . . Tannic but not too much. Long finish. Great buy at $12. — 9 years ago

Domaine Maume

Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru Pinot Noir 1999

A macho burgundy here, real intense and muscular animal nose, fur and blood and wet earth, opens to sweet raspberry fruit with time. Palate is rich and deep, almost chewy like a meal, dense and meaty yet in the most elegant way, has a long life ahead yet! 1999 vintage. — 9 years ago

Maison Roche de Bellene

Montagny 1er Cru Chardonnay 2011

A pimp at the top of his game, muscular flash, with a macho swagger arrogant enough to be feminine, the potential for violence ephemerally inhabits his edges. He's got the finest ladies in the neighbourhood.  — 10 years ago

At first almost underwhelming with predominating "Red Vines" aroma but within 5 minutes in a decanter it opened into about seven dimensions of radness. Unbelievably floral but macho-tough. — 11 years ago
