Starting to dry out. Not fruity, not jammy, just wIne....very fine! Christmas 2016 — 8 years ago
Lovely and broad. The fruit is great for the age. Broad soft fruit with a touch of butterscotch. Lovely and balanced. In great shape. — 9 years ago

1981. Super Interesting and lasting. — 10 years ago
Deep, dense fruit with tobacco, dried floral notes. Notes of condensed dark berries and hints of smoke lingered on the palette with rich tannins for at least an hour after finishing my glass. — 11 years ago
Really nice, underrated vintage especially in Pomerol, small crop but exceptional fruit, naturally overshadowed be 1982's .... — 11 years ago

1981 Rioja gran reserva with beautiful cigar box and dry cherry aromas, layered with herbs, dry soil, vanilla, coconut and red flowers. — 10 years ago
Still has nice fruit. Smooth tannins and a structured finish. Cool wine! — 11 years ago
Yummy wine drunk in Sicily — 12 years ago
— 6 years ago

Um yeah... #BOOM status granted for this at the #yulwinethrowdown . 81 not the best of vintages and wines are reportedly past peak but this first growth was not. Very interesting flavour profile, certainly secondary characteristics but structurally still pretty sound. I was glad to find it still alive and in my opinion had many more years left before the big decline. Awesome privilege to have tasted. — 10 years ago

For a nearly 40 yro Rioja so fresh & vibrant. High pitch notes of mixed red fruit and vanilla on palate. Still snap of acidity to close out finish. Interesting to compare to the younger Lopez Tondonia from night before-not as deep? Drank by the river Jan Kill at the end of a good hike. — 6 years ago
